I need retail customers to arrive at shop entrance and start shopping - and NOT HAVE TO LOGIN
I will need wholesale customers to login.
So how and where do I turn off login for retail customers? I've searched the forum and not finding the answer.
thanks in advance for any help with this

As far as i know, there is no option to switch off the account login for retail side. This is something I find annoying and puts off customers!!!

This is crazy, I'm really begining to hate this package

Surely a global password could be put in somewhere to disable required login for retail customers, or some fix for this as it's anti-ecommerce

A few CCP6 users feel this, but to be truthful its never stopped a bookshop named after a river to become the biggest player in ecommerce, and I'm sure, that if making customers sign up for an account to buy something drove down their sales they would have removed it from their website long ago.
if all you want, is to get people through the checkout as quick as possible, then you have less change of a returning customer, having them take a minute to setup an account gives you a greater change of their returned custom, but then this depends on how much you put in to retaining them.

There's never a bad time to tell customers that they're confused about what they want, and what they really want is what you're selling ![]()
If registration was not mandatory in CCP51 (created when Amazon was around), why is it mandatory now?
Don't get me wrong, personally I prefer the forced-registration method. But, given that so many CCP6 customers have asked for it, shouldn't they get what they want?
(if indeed many have asked)

For some products it makes sense to setup an account (regular repeat orders), but without a doubt the simpler the process the more likely a visitor is to complete a sale. I see the FORCED account setup as one more barrier to accomplishing that.
I still don't see why it has to be mandatory, why is there not an option to turn this off?

As far as I can remember [dont quote me on this] but it has to do with the underlaying code within CCP6, I remember a post by Nick on this, stating why it works this way

I'll look into releasing an update that contains checkout without an account - but it may take a while and may not even be doable under the new architecture. There is so much security built into the order processing and tracking functions in the program that I'm not sure if this can be done or not. The addition of a cancel button should be easy, though.
The reason we went with an account-based checkout in this version is that it improves security and decreases the number of steps to checkout. I haven't heard anyone complain that checkout is too long (so that worked) and we have had no security issues reported (so that's good too). The fact that we're only asking for two additional entries (password & confirm password) and have shipping quotes, sales, discounts and taxes all calculated on the first checkout page automatically is HUGE!

Okay, so I have to deal with it.

Why would this be?

The url: http://www.getupandgrow.ie
I logged out and thought to look at what a customer will be asked to go through to register for a new account however once logged out the only option on this pc is to log back in as myself. I suppose I would have to delete all the cookies and start over each time - but nah this would make no sense either.
I'm only seeing my shop when I'm logged into the admin, otherwise I can't get beyond you are not logged in. I set ONLINE STORE as the default page but that doesn't work unless someone is logged in.
I think all the confusion of this shopping cart is breeding more confusion rather than clarity.

That link results in a very blank screen (ie: nothing, nada, zip).

As of April 7,2007 at 10:17 UTC your website DNS name has not been listed by the registration services. This seems to be a new registered name or you have just changed the nameserver.

Welcome to getupandgrow.ie
Your account has been created.
You can access your Web site right away using d56517.u25.darklite.ie. Over the next few days, DNS servers all across the Internet will update themselves with your new site name. Once that happens, you will be able to access your site at its permanent address, getupandgrow.ie.

That was the host's holding page. I replaced it with a page linking to the shop but you cannot see the shop EVER unless you are logged into the admin panel. I don't understand this??

I have set up a user as a wholesale account, and applied a percentage discount. At the product level I have also set a specific price for wholesalers.
However, on the front end, when I log in as that user (a) the login page is not displayed as a wholesaler account (which I have seen other postings relate to) and (b) the price of the product has not changed.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
