Is there work in progress to implement this with 5.1?

No, however it will be implemented in version 6.0 probably in the first post-release update if it doesn't make it into the initial release.

Thanks Nick.
It seems intriguing being setup as a Google merchant and having the store indexed via Google's various tools and getting deals on advertising/free transactions. Seems like a win/win.

Thanks! I want google check out, but I bought 6.0 and I really don't like it and am keeping 5.1 for the time.

I have written a Google Checkout mod for CCP 5.1 that integrates Google Checkout as a new payment gateway just like any other Gateway in CCP. It is enabled/disabled from the admin panel and sends the customer to Google to complete their order much the same way that Paypal Standard does.
