UPS Shipping (Package dimensions, weight)

We use our own packaging and I was wondering if ClickCartPro will return the correct UPS shipping rates if you we only enter shipping weights and not package sizes for each product in our store? The reason being is many of our products ship in multiple boxes... I can input the total weight but the program only allows for one box dimensions... any ideas?

Re: UPS Shipping (Package dimensions, weight)

If you do not enter dimensions, the defaults entered under Shipping Settings | Manage Realtime Shipping Methods for the shipper in question will be used.

Re: UPS Shipping (Package dimensions, weight)

So then how do you enter in dimensions for multiple boxes? And do I plug in the toal weight?

ex. Order Item 5,000 4x6 Postcards = (2) 50lb. Boxes, each 12" x 12" x 12"

Re: UPS Shipping (Package dimensions, weight)

I would set it up as 50 lbs. 12x12x12.  The program would sent it to UPS as 100 lbs. 24x12x12.

Re: UPS Shipping (Package dimensions, weight)

Isn't that if the customer ordered (2) items?

I mean that (1) order of 5000 postcards ships in (2) 50lb. boxes each 12 x 12 x 12...

Am I missing something here?

Re: UPS Shipping (Package dimensions, weight)

The same would hold true.  UPS only takes dimensions for the entire shipment - so you would use 24x12x12 @ 100 lbs.

Re: UPS Shipping (Package dimensions, weight)

Got it! And the first dimension (length) would be the one that gets increased?

Re: UPS Shipping (Package dimensions, weight)

Nick... CCP5 is still not returning the correct shipping rate from UPS, as I'm doing a side by side comparison at ups.com and once the total package weight (for any single package) exceeds 150 lbs. UPS gives this error;

"The maximum per package weight for that service from the selected country is 150 pounds."

And once the 150 lb. threshold has been reached using the Real-time Shipping Method, CCP5 returns the Default Amount For Size/Weight Overage of $25.00 for the item.

Anyone else having this problem shipping multiple items that weight a lot? Is there a work-around?

With many items, we ship anywhere from 10 to 15 (50 lbs.) boxes with a total weight of 500-750 lbs.

If I add the different shipping amounts as Product Options, it'll be a mess because we take orders from around the country and shipping rates vary significantly from UPS zone 1 to zone 5.

Re: UPS Shipping (Package dimensions, weight)

It sounds like ups.com will not give a quote.  What would you expect CCP to do?  Give a good way to handle it and I'll tell you how to manage it.

Re: UPS Shipping (Package dimensions, weight)

Hmmm... O.k.

Let's add a field in the manage products form for <Number of Packages>... we'll assume that for every item, the package weight, height, length and width will be the same for each box shipped.

Now we'll pass the info to UPS and it'll return the correct rate...

Thanks Nick!

Re: UPS Shipping (Package dimensions, weight)

So you don't want any more than one product querried at a time?  I'm afraid I still don't understand the solution.  Have you tought about using a custom method based on the number of items in the cart?

Re: UPS Shipping (Package dimensions, weight)

We only allow one item to be ordered at a time.

The problem lies with the fact that several of our items ship in multiple boxes and in many cases the total weight of the shipment exceeds 150 lbs... CCP5 assumes that one box will ship per item. I'm going nuts trying to figure this one out smile

When editing Products, can additional fields for size and weight be added for more than one box? And can this info then be sent to UPS online for a quote?

And how's our custom support request coming along? Any progress?

Re: UPS Shipping (Package dimensions, weight)

I just applied a fix for this offline.  I set the program to use the max weight instead of producing an error value if the max weight was exceeded.
