New Forum Online As Of 09/15/2006

Hello everyone.  It is with pleasure I am announcing the launch of our support forum on a new software platform.

As many of you are well aware our previous forum software (Invision Power Board) had been subject to SPAM attacks for the past few months.  Members of the ClickCartPro community requested that the forum be converted to software that is faster and less prone to such SPAM message postings.  After soliciting feedback from users we decided on the Punbb platform.

The forum has been moved from it's previous location at http://www.clickcartpro.com/forum/ to https://forum.kryptronic.com/ in conjunction with this software update.

Because we are now using a new software platform, all forum user account passwords have been updated.  In order to access your account, select to have your new password emailed to you.  Once you receive the email message containing your new password, login with that password and use the forum at will.

The default style for the forum is close to the ClickCartPro forum skin you are used to.  An additional style is available under the Display Options function in your account profile that more closely matches the new color scheme of the Kryptronic Hybrid X Core (KHXC) which is currently under development and pending launch.

As always, thank you for your support and have a great day.

Hi Nick,
   maybe you can leave the old forum up and running for awhile, just as a back up, but close all forums to new posts and new members, just until everyone gets their personal stuff sorted out.

Cheers
Steve

I would also like access to my old PM's and will miss that feature on the new board.  Also wondering why the posts aren't automatically marked as read after I view them... am I missing a setting somewhere?

I wondered the same, as well as not being able to mark individual area's as read.

Re: New Forum Online As Of 09/15/2006

I'll look into how Punbb marks topics as read.  I know it works as it's working for me automatically.  As far as the PM system, it was being abused.  I'll get it back up this weekend for archive purposes and set up access so you guys can get your PMs.  Ill post a URL here after it's back up.

Nick, I'm just clarifying ...... are you saying the pm feature will not be available moving forward? I believe this will be missed by many.

Re: New Forum Online As Of 09/15/2006

I agree, as it was the only form of actually getting contacted back by some. I know that were it not for PMs, I would almost never hear back from some CCP authorized partners.

As always, I appreciate your efforts Nick, but the PM feature sure was one of the most important features.

How was it being abused?

Re: New Forum Online As Of 09/15/2006

I love the new forums.  I have been a user of PunBB for quite some time.  It is very well respected in the 'compliant' community, so it is definately a good thing to have this forum in use as CCP will be getting more and more people interested in it from this community upon the next release.

That being said... a private messaging system is a nice thing to have.  Fortunately a number of mods have been made available by the Pun community and the PM system is the #1 most desired mod.

It can be found at http://www.punres.org/desc.php?pid=52

Whether or not Nick will implement the system, I don't know.  I do know it is stable and I have used it before myself.  I don't think we would be able to have our previous messages from the old PM system imported over.  However, much of that was probably spam anyway.

So maybe if we continue to be a 'squeeky wheel' Nick will implement it for us.  smile

If you go into your profile and change the theme to khxc, the areas you have already visited will be un-bolded like it should be.

I think the problem is the css code in the CCP theme.

.pun A:link, .pun A:visited {
font-weight: bold;
text-decoration: underline }
.pun A:hover {
font-weight: bold;
text-decoration: underline }

Should be

.pun A:link, .pun A:visited {
text-decoration: underline }
.pun A:hover {
text-decoration: underline }

Nick, could you make this adjustment in the CCP theme?

In the 3 years that I have been on this forum, I have never once received a single spam via PM.

Re: New Forum Online As Of 09/15/2006

I'm using the KHXC theme and having the same problem with posts not being marked as read - it doesn't seem to make a difference.  Could there be a browser issue involved?  I've specifically listed the forum as an allowed site for cookies, so I dont' think that's an issue.  But maybe there's some other setting that affects it?  Is it behaving differently in IE vs. FF?  (I'm using FF, btw)

As far as Dave's comment about PM spam, I can't claim 3 years, but in my 9 months, I've never received a PM spam either.

Hmmm.... I'm using the KHXC theme and it works fine.  No problems whatsoever.  Post I have already read are non-bold... posts I have yet to read are bolded.

I'm using Firefox too.

I found that it marks the post read only after I log out and log back in again.

vbulletin is not a compliant solution.  It will not validate as XHTML strict.  I don't think that would be a good solution as CCP moves toward being a fully compliant solution.

Re: New Forum Online As Of 09/15/2006

Hi

I think the problem Nick is talking about with PM is that when new users start to ask questions, they receive PM from members offering help (non certified members). Some of these are from scammers who are very helpful until you pay some money over for the help and then they disappear. I had a couple of customers complain about this.

As I always say only pay for help from certified support members!

Re: New Forum Online As Of 09/15/2006

I apologize for the lack of PMs since the forum went live on Friday.  I installed a PM function for the new forum today that functions much like the old VB function.  Look for the 'Messages' link in the top menu to access it.  Additionally I was able to access the old PMs stored in VB and migrate them over to the new forum.  You should see all of your old PMs in your inboxes.

I've also updated the CSS for the CCP skin.  New posts should show as bold.  I have confirmed that your login status affects how you see old/new posts.  New posts will be shown in bold, old ones in normal font weight.

Concerning the date issue, the software had a global setting of GMT for the server time and our server is actually in EST - that was causing a five hour difference on the times.  That may have also caused some issues with seeing new/old posts in the bold/normal context.  Times are correct now.

Concerning XHTML validation, my experience was that VB did validate as 1.0 Transitional on the front page and any system generated pages that did not contain user text.  PunBB validates on all pages, including those with user text on them.  It looks to me like PunBB was designed to be compliant from the ground up (much like the new KHXC) and VB adopted it somewhere along the way.

Any other issues?  I really want to expand on this platform over time as I do like it a lot more than VB.  I realize it's a simpler platform but it's speed and flexibility are great and the internals are much easier to work with than VB.

Excellent Nick, thank you so much. As usual, you are on the ball.

I still would like to be able to mark each individual section as read like the old forum, if at all possible.
