Paypal Is Unreliable

I have had CCP since March. I am very pleased with it, but since I don't sell volume I can't afford a proper credit card merchant account. So I use PayPal.

The trouble is that a lot of customers are unable to check out through PayPal. This is reaching a point that is really annoying. Some customers can check out (I was able to do it whenever I tested) and others just can't. So I end up sending them an email asking them to send me a direct PayPal payment to my email address (which, of course, always works fine).

Has anyone else been experiencing the same bugs with PayPal?

Is there a solution to this?

Thanks in advance...

Re: Paypal Is Unreliable

We have countless problems with taking payment on paypal, but this tends to be when the customer is paying via credit/debit card, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. We recently changed the account to a business one has helps a bit, but still isn't great.

Another annoying bug is that if you don't have an account and just want to pay by credit card, if you are located in another country and select that country, the language changes! Not great if the customer is english living abroad!

We are moving to another payment gateway very soon.

Re: Paypal Is Unreliable

I have the same problems with unreliablity. In fact, just recently I had a customer not be able to check out on one day and it worked fine the next. I really wish it would work though - it's such a bummer to have to look for a merchant account, gateway and shipping service!

Re: Paypal Is Unreliable

I had the same, very unreliable esp on debit cards I found.  I would use Nochex but as the products are over £100 each they seek this large deposit, which kinda sucks hence why I now use Paypal still but Nochex on one off's if under £100.

Re: Paypal Is Unreliable

I just posted a similar message.

I have had a lot of problems with Paypal Pro and even standard on a periodic basis.  I have some customers that go right through and others that we cannot get through on even the virtual terminal.  I have a lot of problems with Canadian customers that live in the boonies.  It seems to me that Paypal filters are way too tight and that they reject some transactions out of hand.  It also seems to me that they go down and then claim that the gateway rejects the transaction as if they had nothing to do with it.  All-in-all very frustrating, but very frustrating to our customers.

I am looking for a friendly gateway.  Any suggestions?  I just don't believe Paypal any more!

I know that many of my personal online purchases don't even require the CVV, go fast and are easy.   :-(

Re: Paypal Is Unreliable

See my lengthier reply to your other post... but I can suggest CardServices with Linkpiont gateway as a viable alternative that isn't too difficult to set up.

No offense, but using Paypal for a serious business is like balancing eggs on the end of a pin. Eventually, you will have a big mess and NO EGG.

Dump paypal as soon as possible if you are serious about your business.

Re: Paypal Is Unreliable

I agree, but...

I used to have a merchant account with Cardservice International. These guys don't have their act together 100%, as one would expect. But this is not why I had to dump them. They were too expensive and they kept raising rates. With my small volume of sales I ended up working for them (almost).

So now I am stuck with the devil, i.e. PayPal. I hate them, but I don't have another cheap solution.

If anyone knows of a solution that won't cost me more than PayPal, I am all ears.

Re: Paypal Is Unreliable

I switched to Paypal Webpayments Pro and have had only one problem. Their security is SO! much tighter than my previous card processor, I had to get info about my customers that I wasn't used to getting. My earlier attempt with cards cost me $535 when the processor didn't see that the card was not registered to someone in Isreal. I haven't had that problem with the many credit cards that I have processed with PPWP.

Give it time. I was a big fan of paypal too at one time.

You'll see. Everyone does eventually  ;-)

Re: Paypal Is Unreliable

I posted similar results as a reply in another thread, but I guess it doesn't hurt to pile on here. I NEVER actually got PPP to work properly. Like many others, customers couldn't make payments for any number of reasons. PP's tech support, being worse than Dell's or HP's, was unable or unwilling to assist in resolving the issues. I finally "bit the bullet" and signed up with AuhorizeNet. It's more expensive... but it works!
