how can i purge completed records. (i would like to archive them first)
is it as easy as renaming the file so the program starts up a new one when the next order is placed.

Re: purging completed database records

Not that easy.  First to archive them, I would login via FTP and just download the files:

./data/tables/tracking.csv
./data/tables/trackitem.csv

Then login via admin and go to Global Settings | Manage Program Settings.  Adjust the setting for 'Time Period To Store Orders' to something low like 'One Month'.  Every time cron runs (once every five days) orders older than that will be deleted.
