I setup a gift certificate for $50 and it was used for a $46.70 discount on a $46.70 order.

When I looked at the discount code again I expected to see that it was for $3.30 but it still showed $50.00.

I placed a test order and indeed I could still use it for a $50 discount.

What did I do wrong?

Hi Kaz,

The 'Gift Certificate' code type was added in by the ATS Gift Certificate mod, I believe.

Perhaps you could run this past Mark if you have indeed purchased this mod from him.

Sounds to me that something is not quite right there.

The other thing of course is that perhaps the order in which the discount was used on hadn't yet been finalised. I'm only guessing, it could be something simple like that.

Hi Guys,

This is Mark from ATS. The Gift Certificate discount code type exists in CCP51 with or without the ATS mod. The ATS gift certificate module adds the ability for your customers to buy them in real time and have them generated, it does not affect the redemption of them.

Regarding the problem reported, I suspect that the order placed against the discount code was using a payment method such as "check payment" that is not set to "process updates".

I had asked Mark about this in the past as well, but I forgot about until now.

Is there a way to make the check payment option etc. update the GC? if the customer does not send the check, then that's their problem :-)

In addition, maybe a way to edit the GC amount without changing the GC number would help?

The payment method was left as the default (AIM Credit Card).
No payment was due as the purchase was less than the gift certificate amount.

Any other ideas why this was not decremented?

Kaz, I had a customer use $49.99 on a $50. cert, and was still able to use the $50. again as well.

Store Credits seem to work OK. I guess I'll just setup Store Credits when people buy Gift Certificates, there's no difference from their perspective that I can see...
