Things are starting to blur a bit for me, but I know I've had problems with the apostrophes in descriptions disappearing. Now I know that's an issue with MySQL and that a double ' needs to be used. But I can swear I had the problem while still using the csv tables AND that it only happened with some of the items under MySQL.
I also *think* they may be disappearing when we convert from csv to MySQL.
Am I imagining this?
Thanks all.

OK...it's not me. Minor glitch in CCP 5. Add apostrophes to a product desc in PhpMyAdmin and they're there. Upen the product with the Admin panel, save it and they're gone.
Rich
It's not really a glitch as they are intentionally stripped out. SOme of the different supported databases handle them differently and the DBI quote method doesn't always seem to work 100% when escaping them for different RDBMS. If it's a major issue, I can delay the update so we can fully test all of the database functionality again, with and without single quotes.

For me, this is a minor issue--not one that I would want the update delayed for.
Nick-
I agree with Linda. As I said, minor glitch. I get around it by editing items with PhpMyAdmin rather than the Admin Control Panel.
Certainly not worth delaying the update over.

Hey folks, I just wanted to let you know that I came up with a "semi" solution...
Use the HTML special code for the apostrophe: '
That way you don't have to switch to PHP Admin if you don't want to.
However... CCP5 does convert it back to ' when you go to edit again. (Like it does with any other special HTML character code.)
Is there a way to keep my special codes without CCP5 coverting them?

That's just the way that the browser is printing that back to you. I'm afraid there's no way around it.
We plan to do more extensive testing on the single/double quote issue within the next few weeks and will update the install file if a solution can be found. This was thoroughly tested and no solution was evident that worked across all platforms (CSV, MySQL, PostgreSQL, MS SQL Server) during development. We plan to revisit it anyway, though, and see what may come up.
If we do find a workable solution, we'll post the code updates out here so you guys can update your scripts.

If you use the single quote code you won't have that problem. Just hold down the alt key and type 0146.

Thats why my words are looking silly. Thought I forgot how to type for a while there. Any fix in the works?
re: Hold alt and hit 0146? Where do you do that? I just get beeped at.

You dont hold all of those keys at once, You just hold down the alt key and then press the other keys consecutively.
