Hey

I would really like to be able to upload an image from my hard drive when adding the product to the shop.

Any ideas

You can always use Macromedia Dreamweaver MX FTP extension. It looks like a local upload process.

Cheers for that - but I was thinking along the lines of having the image files on my local hard disk so that when adding the new product and description I would simply browse locally to that file and when clicking to add the item it would upload the image at the same time. This would mean a single operation for adding products.

The same system could also generate a small thumnail image so you would have to add only one not two.

I regularly use similar methods for my photography networks.

In this case, you might want to use FTP explorer. You can integrate the FTP usage "inside" Windows Explorer window. There's definitely no better way to do this.

Actually this is a prime example of a feature request. It would be nice if CCP would allow you to browse and upload a file right from the add a product, category, etc... pages. So when you add an item, where it asks for file name it could have the same browse and upload function there as the normal file upload util. That would make adding an item a 1 step vs a 2 step process potentially.

Nick can you move this to the Zuma forum?

This feature should be feasable by playing with the adm element files a little bit actually.

Hi:

What version of CCP are you using? I use CCP51 and I upload all my images directly from my hard drive, CD-ROM and floppy disc without using FTP or any other software. My be the server hosting my web site plays a part. I don't know but this method works for me. You may try it and see.

I use CCP51, this is how I do it:

Go to "Main Menu" -- Administrative Panel -- and follow this path:

The important images to upload are:

Image - Product Extra Large
Image - Product Detail
Image - Category Product
Image - Category Listing

Once you select the image, then click the "Browse" button to go to where you saved the image (hard drive, CD or floppy disc) and select it. Finally click the "Submit" button.

That is it. You can upload anything you want even the image of your pet or yourself (if you choose) from any drive or folder in your computer. It is simple and easy.

I put in a feature request that would require an upload based form, so that a user could simply upload one image and CCP would do the rest with automatic Image Resizing and such.

So a user would not have to make three images but rather just one. Upon upload ImageMagick or GD2 would create a thumbnail version and a product detail version of the image. The original uploaded image could serve as the large image that opens up in a popup box when clicked on.

This would be a huge timesaver when adding products.

Having just installed imagemagick on one of my dedicated servers for a heavily used image site I know the benefits.

Godwin.....I think what martyn.pinches wanted was to be able to specify the images and upload when defining the product instead of having to go to the file upload section. It makes sense.

Driven through many times en-route to Caernarfon ~ a lovely area and I bet the townsfolk are much happier for the bypass.
