Re: Heroes and Sidekicks

If you're familiar with banners, heroes and sidekicks take them to the next level.  They're basically responsive banners with different layers instead of a single image like a regular banner.  Here's a rundown:

- They are comprised of a header, content, link with controllable text, a background image and a main image.  Only the background image is required (like a banner), and the other components sit on top of that.  As page width changes, the elements rearrange and respond to create a fluid display.

- Heroes and sidekicks can be grouped (like banners) to create a rotation.  You can assign a hero or sidekick group for each of the following: categories, products, store splash page, html pages, articles and article categories (like banners).

- Heroes and sidekicks are displayed using skin/theme widgets (like banners) which can be placed anywhere in your theme - but generally go the same place as banners - in the LOCATION spot.

- In wide/desktop views, Heros display the header, content and link on the left and the image on the right if an image and one of the other elements are used.  In mid/tablet and thin/mobile views the image is presented under the header, content and/or link display.  If just an image or any combination of the other elements is used, a centered display is used.

- In wide/desktop views, Sidekicks display the header, content and link on the right and the image on the left if an image and one of the other elements are used.  In mid/tablet and thin/mobile views the image is presented above the header, content and/or link display.  If just an image or any combination of the other elements is used, a centered display is used.

- Sidekicks are basically an inverse Hero display.  Where a Hero displays content-left-image-right (wide) and content-above-image (mid/thin), a Sidekick displays image-left-content-right (desktop) and image-above-content (mid/thin).

They are very flexible, and you can use different combinations of images, content, headers and links (or not use them) in order to create unique responsive displays.  Commonly this type of display is known as a 'hero display'.  We're using the term 'sidekick' to denote an alternate look for the same thing.  I hope that helps.
