Supressing Product Tabs

NOTE: This post was created on 2023-11-20 on the Kryptronic eCommerce Community facebook page, which has been replaced with this forum.  All facebook support content was migrated into this forum in April 2024.

Anthony:

Product Tabs.... When I use Product Tabs in my Products, the 1st tab is always expanded, is there a way of supressing this at all?

Evan:

I think it used to be suppressed before the latest release. I noticed that the first tab is always expanded now as well

Anthony:

Ahh... anyone know the old code to switch it back?

Chad:

Its an SEO upgrade I believe

Evan:

Iíd keep it the way it is if thatís the case. Itís not a huge deal that it defaults as open.

Anthony:

It is for me I'm afraid...

Anthony:
OK, All solved in prodshowtabs.php

Nick:

In the prodshowtabs.php include, you just need to make the first one hidden. There's an exception for it. Although, the change was made because it's better and proper for SEO purposes to expand the first tab.

Evan:

Nick, would it also be logical to make sure anything in the first tab to be your most SEO relevant content as well among all tabs?

Richard:

Hi Nick, any plans to arrange the product tab descriptions horizontally (as opposed to vertically) with content appearing below across the full width of the screen? Personally, I believe it will improve the appearance and take up a lost less of the "real Estate" on a listing page. Thanks, Richard

Kryptronic:

No plans for that. We used to display horizontal tabs and they were very limiting in what you could do for the tab titles (text length limits) and from a responsive design standpoint (making the same thing work on desktops and mobile devices). So we're happy with the way it is being handed now. With that said, you can override and mod the prodshowtabs.php include and do whatever you like with it.

Anthony:

Thanks Nick, just want to compact the display a little, but i'm happy with the SEO status at the moment as my main search term is number 2 and 3 on google.
