google links now breaking site - suspect cookie issue

Hi,

Since Thursday any Google Adword links clicked to get to my site breaks the site, anyone have any ideas why this might have started? and how to fix it?

Cheers,
Bruce.

Would need more info, like the URL and an explanation of what 'breaks the site' means.

Re: google links now breaking site - suspect cookie issue

Hi Nick,

If I click through a google adwords link I get to the home page OK but if I click through to a second page it comes with a 406 error . If I delete the google analytic cookie it will work ok again, so I think google has changed the cookie last week, as I have not changed the website for 6 months...

I have just disabled analytics until I get this figured out.

It's the schools site at westfield4schools.co.uk

Cheers,
Bruce.

Re: google links now breaking site - suspect cookie issue

From the web:

"406 Not Acceptable The resource identified by the request is only capable of generating response entities which have content characteristics not acceptable according to the accept headers sent in the request. 406 happens when the server cannot respond with the accept-header specified in the request."

Are you sure this isn't an Apache configuration issue on your server that's now been exposed due to the changes Google has made to their cookie format?  We've had no other reports of any similar issues so I would assume the problem is server- related.  Especially due to the 406 code.

Re: google links now breaking site - suspect cookie issue

Hi Nick,

Looks like it was a mod_sec issue with a changed google analytics cookie, added new ignore rules and hopefully all now ok.

Cheers,
Bruce.
