Is anyone else checking the site every 10 mins. for the "click here to purchase 5.0 update"?
YES!!!!!!!!! :7

Definately!! Oooooh! Can't wait!
Just the fact of having it in a database instead of text files is rockin'.... can't wait to see what else is there!

And I thought I was the only one refreshing my browser every two minutes in anticipation of the new release... .
Yes, and each time I hit the home page my heart rate jumps ten beats worried that it will read, "...the next release is scheduled for 8/14"
Yes, waiting....
WellI have been re-testing ccp5's SQL to ensure it all still functions properly. I must say the frontend is a hell of alot more than I expected. It has a few quirks that the developers are fixing up right now... other than that I'm happy with CCP5 results so far. They had to remove MSACCESS because it just wasn't as stable as expected. Would work fine with small product sets.. but throw a 2800 item product file at it and it would barf all over the place. Other than that w00t!
Is everyone ready to have their cake and eat it to?

That is the URL to the current dev version I have. Its not most current version because I'm just testing DB connectivity. The add to cart functions and checkout functions are not there. Also this machine is a 800mhz box with 128 megs of ram so if you see speed issues blame it on the box or if your like me just blame windows. As it runs faster on a linux/unix/bsd box from what I have been told. CCP5 is well worth the wait... This is just to give you some idea of what you all are waiting for.

We're delaying once again until Saturday, 07/27, but do have a partial demo to look at now.

Oh, NO! Don't tell me you're not going to support Access? The wholesalers we are working with have products from more than a thousand manufactureres and the database has three tables, one of which is approximatly 15Mb compressed and 130Mb uncompressed. The table has more than a million products in it. This is just one table of three. Will you be able to help us establish the database with their products? We need to be able to update the database every week (price and product changes).
Should I look to CNET for a solution?
We've got all the work done for Access and will help you get that running - should only take a few minutes. It was just way too flaky on the Windows devel server to justify including in the release. We were using DBI to hit DBD::ODBC to access the mdb file. Access seemed real flaky on that machine running in excess of 2500 products.
Any way you can port the data to MS SQL first, as an alternative? We'll help regardless, after the release, of course.

Whew! I can breathe again! Looks as though it'll be awhile before these clients will be ready. They have to get a better/dedicated server to handle the load. There server is not going to cut it. I'm going to download the db files and see what we can do with them. I think they're importable into MS/MY SQL as they are.
Greg, which distributor do you use?

I'm building a site that'll use the database of Tech Data. They're one of the largest wholesalers of everything PC.
I have to agree that large of a db needs to run thru MySQL and not MS Access.

I must admit this is the largest undertaking of database work I've been involved with. We have a guy who works for a webserver company who mentioned using MYSQL running on Windows 2000. I was under the impression MYSQL had to be run on Unix or Linux. Will it run OK on 2000?
I've heard something about that, but would suggest running it under Linux. When compared to Windows, Linux is the de facto answer for serving pages on the web. That is unless you expect the site not to be too busy, then Windows should work.
CCP5 will run in either environment just fine, and if you can get MySQL running on Windows, all you'll need to do is install DBI and DBD::MySQL via ppm to get the CCP5->MySQL tie in working. It's just my opinion that Linux is an overall better solution.

I agree! I've experienced Linux with large amounts of page calls and a fairly large DB and it ran smooth as silk. The website were going to build with CCP5 will be highly advertised in PC magazines, radio, and some television spots. I expect in time it'll be getting plenty of traffic. This may end up a good ad for CCP5. I know you mentioned CCP4 running on a site that had 40,000 page calls a day on average and it didn't miss a beat. I would expect the website we're building will end up that busy or more so. We'll see.
>Excellent. Let us know how
>that goes - it would
>be a great advertisement.
No problem! I'll be right here as always. I may need to hire some help from you. We'll see.
