I had asked a question about expiring discounts in April 2014 in the ccp7 forum. Reviewing the discussion I realize I am still not clear on one aspect.
Does the expiring discount apply only to the first customer to use it? That is, only ONE customer gets to use it?
Or can multiple customers use the discount once?

Would it possible to write an XMOD that extends discounts in useful ways? If so, are there developer guidelines for creating an XMOD?
- An expiring type that applies to once per customer
- A start and end valid date for either type of discount

There is no guidelines for creating xmods at least none that I know of, but you should not have a problem creating one if you can code PHP. Making a discount to auto close in a given time period is not generally a hard job but making one that can be used by any customer but only once is much harder.

We've done those sort of mods through the custom shop if the coding is beyond your capabilities. You couldn't really implement changes to discount code calculations in XMOD format. You would need to modify ECOM_Checkout directly.
