In System Dashboard > Store > Commerce > Discount Codes, I do not understand the description of a Discount Code Type:
"Select an expiring type to disable this discount code when empty. Select a non-expiring type to keep the code intact for multiple uses"
What does "disable this discount code when empty" mean?
When what is empty?
How does it expire it? There are no dates involved.
Is a blank entry the same as selecting "Expiring discount"?

If you have an expiring discount for example of 20.00, and a customer uses the total amount in a purchase, the discount will have its " Active Status" field changed to false ( not active ) and not be elagible to be used again, if they only used a portion of the discount then the amount of the discount would be reset minus what was used and the remainder left for a future use, and will be deactivated once the amount is completely used. Non-expiring discount will never be automaticly deactivated no mater how many times they are used.
They field should not let you save a discount with out an entry present, it has to be one or the other.

This applies per customer, correct?
What if the discount is a percentage, say 30%, and the customer purchases two items totaling $50? Is the total reduced to $35 and the discount expired for that customer?

Yes the total would be reduced to 35, but an expiring discount is for a single customer unless your running a first come first served sale, each customer would need their own unique discount, as stated once a expiring discount is used it is deactivated. There is no way to apply a portion of a precentage discount so they are all or nothing, a discount of a dollar amount can be used on several purchases if the total cart items do not exceed the discount amount, a 20.00 discount used on a 5.00 purchase would result in the discount reducing to 15.00 ( to be used at a later time) and the sale for the customer of a free 5.00 item, the checkout total would include shipping if the item is shippable, handling charges and taxes if active.

This sucks. Just when I think the discount code option might be useful, it proves otherwise.
We would have liked to offer a 30% discount on the purchase of two items and expire the discount for each customer that used the discount without needing 1000s of unique discount codes. Obviously this is not possible.
Is there an XMOD that does useful discounting?
