Still having trouble with product options and option selection items. Watched the You Tube video dozens of times. Still not getting it. Option selection items are products in my case, not just colors or sizes of some product.

Option selection items may not be products. They are designed for the type of things you describe, colors, sizes, etc.

That's what confuses me about the video. Product options, option selection items, and products.
Let's say it's a PC buildup, you know you need all these things to build it so...how do you do that? You know, cae, power supply, motherboard, you have options to add ram types, say ddr2 or ddr3 etc., then you have brand names of said products..All are products. How's that work if they aren't option selection items?

They are simply options. The brand etc for each of the options doesn't matter. The actual "build" is done based on the options that were selected. If you have more than one brand for an option, say disk drives, the option itself would include the name of the brand of disk drive so the builder would know which disk drive to use.
An option is a single choice item. Option selection items are for options that may have more than one choice. In a computer build memory is a decent example. You'd have an option for memory which might have 3 option selections (ie: 2 gig, 4 gig, 8 gig). A single choice item might be a floppy drive. You either want one or you don't. It's a binary choice, yes or no.

So you are saying that I don't use the option selection items function, but just relate products (like a pc buildup) with items that are related and those options are added to the build? But that only happens IF the customer remembers to check them off correclty right?

No you create an item as a "default" (base unite, price) and create list of options (with selections) that either do not change the basic price or change the price (up or down) where the customer can choose. Option selection name can contain the product package id that contains the change so that when the item is in the cart or in the email invoice you can tell which one they want. Look at an example on my site , the basic packages are setup as a radio buttons so that the customer can only choose one option in each category of how they want it, otherwise if they don't choose any different options then the base package will have the highlited options listed in the cart dispaly and emails.

In the default items that get installed with CCP is a build your own PC. It's a good example of a mix of options and options with selection choices. If you no longer have the default items in your installation look at the demo on the Kryptronic site.

Yes, but I removed all of those because they were fictional itmes, so I'll have to take a look at the demo. The back end is where I get stuck. I think it's just a mental block due to how tired I've been.

In ccp7 you have to modify some core scripts, there is a post on the forum detailing the changes, but I hear that v8 has this as a standard feature.
