Re: VAT Issues in EuropaCart: Summary Response

Hi Tommy, I asked about this today and was told that this particular issue has been holding up the release.  Hopefully soon.  Thanks.

Re: VAT Issues in EuropaCart: Summary Response

Hi Tommy,

We should finally have resolution on this next week.  There's been a mixture of issues and some custom work that has slowed things and prevented a more timely release, but there is finally a light at the end of the tunnel.  Thanks for your patience.

Hi...this whole thread will be taken into account this week when we finally nail this down.  It's been a long ride to this patch, but we should be there soon.  Thanks for the patience.

Re: VAT Issues in EuropaCart: Summary Response

Hi Jeff,

Will the pending update also address the VAT issue with the display of historic orders?  I posted on here some time ago that historic orders (i.e. orders that are from an earlier VAT Rate period) will display VAT amounts using the latest VAT rate setting but the information will be incorrect to the user because the VAT amount should be the amount of vat recorded when that order was completed (in the case of the UK market this is very important because VAT Rates have been changed by HMRC 3 times in the last few years and there may be another VAT Rate change within the follwoing 12 months).

I did some investigation into this bug and concluded that the orders table had a record of the vat at the point of sale but the orderitems table did not, which is what is causing the problem with incorrect vat values being displayed on order line items.  Showing incorrect vat amounts in order lines could lead to customers printing off historic orders when logged into their accounts and then submitting those order receipts to HMRC.  The negative in this is that HMRC will think that the company/online shop who sold the items to a customer is charging incorrect VAT amounts which would lead to fines and VAT investigations for the company who has the online store.

I hope that Nick has fixed this historic bug.  I made a suggestion in my post of a way to fix the problem by adding a new field to the orderitems table and then running a SQL script that would populate the new field on all orders including historic ones.  That way when customers login to their accounts and view historic order line items the VAT amounts would be correct.

I have around 4000 business customers and have been waiting for Nick to fix the VAT bugs so that I can market Europacart to my customers who may want an e-commerce shop solution but have not dared to do this to date because of the potential fallout if they discover the issues with VAT calculations and displays in Europacart.

Please ask Nick to be thorough with the VAT fixes for Europacart because you guys may be missing a revenue potential from UK customers who may still be being serviced by Greenbarn as a result of the bad press with Europacart and VAT.

Re: VAT Issues in EuropaCart: Summary Response

Hi jeff,

Sorry to keep banging on about this, but it is causing me daily problems with clients selling VAT and VAT free items in the same cart.

Personally, not concerned regarding the historic issue. Just want the cart not to mess with the shipping charge when there is a VAT free product in the cart.

At present, we are having to discount the shipping charge to keep the totals correct. Quite often, this means shipping less than cost price!

Come on guys, help your long term customers out here.

We really are close to a release here.  And I do feel bad that this has stretched.  I won't bore you with another promise...suffice to say, it shouldn't be too much longer.  I really do appreciate your patience and understand the importance for those involved.

Re: VAT Issues in EuropaCart: Summary Response

Is this update going to fix ALL evidence of VAT issues in Europacart or just the bug whereby Vat on delivery skews the order item line percentages?

UK HMRC VAT Sales Receipts/Invoices MUST include a VAT breakdown on order items NOT JUST THE order Total Vat Amount.

VAT can be changed in the UK which means that historic orders need to be able to show the correct Vat per order line basis which Europacart does not presently do because there is no field to record the VAT for each order line when an order is added to the orderitems table.

Re: VAT Issues in EuropaCart: Summary Response

Hello all.  We are wrapping up the update today, and will hopefully post it later today.   There were two VAT issues brought up by users, which I'll detail below.

###

(1) VAT Exempt Items - VAT on Shipping not calculated

In versions 7.1.3 and below, VAT on shipping is not calculated on VAT exempt items.  This has been changed in version 7.1.4.

###

(2) Historical Order VAT Issues

In versions 7.1.1 and below, VAT percentages were not logged with the orders.  This causes actual calculated rates to be displayed instead of the item's VAT rate in versions 7.1.1 and below.  This was addressed by storing item VAT rates with order items in version 7.1.2.  Any orders placed prior to installation of version 7.1.2 will show actual VAT rates.  Any orders placed after the installation of version 7.1.2 will show item VAT rates.

Therefore, any users who have installed versions 7.1.2 or above will see item VAT rates in the VAT summary on orders, not actual calculated rates, for all orders placed after their software is updated to 7.1.2 or above.

No change for this was needed in version 7.1.4, as it's already been addressed.

One user (kev) has claimed issues with historic orders showing incorrect VAT rates in the VAT summary on orders.  I have confirmed that while kev has updated his core (system) component on mycompleteofflice.co.uk to version 7.1.3, the ecom (store) component is still at version 7.1.1 - so he's seeing this issue because he hasn't updated his ecom (store) component to version 7.1.2 or above as of yet.

###

Thanks, and have fun applying the update when it comes out.  It should be a quick and painless one.
