PayPal Notifications

Hey,

We seem to have a problem with several Kryptronic installs whereby the emails are not being sent after payment (the emails from PayPal go fine, just the system never updates the order or sets them to completed).

We have investigated a little and it looks like it may be because after making payment they never return to the website (so no information is passed back). Is this the case or could it be another problem?

Thanks,

Ashley

Re: PayPal Notifications

Do these sites only accept paypal for payment? Are you using paypal standard or paypal pro? Is the active paypal gateway set to allow order updates?

Re: PayPal Notifications

The sites only accept PayPal payment (or at least most of them do) along with the 'over the phone' option. The majority of the installs are using PayPal standard, we have one on pro but that's done internally so it works.

All are set to allow order updates.

Re: PayPal Notifications

Does the update failure happen on every order or only some orders?

Re: PayPal Notifications

It seems to only happen on some of them, like I said above I guessed at what the cause could be but I may be wrong.

Re: PayPal Notifications

If it only happens on some of them then it is a network related problem between the Paypal server and your host during the Paypal response. If you think it may be more than that, you can have a programmer log the Paypal responses and compare the response log to orders that weren't properly updated but the problem seems to be server miscommunication.

Re: PayPal Notifications

Cheers for the responses. I could probably log the responses you mentioned with a nudge in the right direction, so any useful links?

Edit: This thread https://forum.kryptronic.com/viewtopic.php?id=4284 supports what I was saying about customers not going back to the site being the problem. It mentions IPN in that thread, so is that in CCP7 and if so how can I set it up?

Re: PayPal Notifications

That thread is 8 years old and related to version 5.1 of CCP. It has no relationship at all to this or version 7 of CCP.

Re: PayPal Notifications

I appreciate that, but does CCP7 support IPN and if users do not return to the site (clicking continue/return after payment) could that cause a loss of notifications?

Re: PayPal Notifications

CCP passes a field called notify_url to Paypal that tells Paypal to notify CCP of the order. This supersedes the Paypal IPN.
