server crashed, 6000 item db most likely lost, have Q about installer

We were able to retrieve our files (php, html ect) but we cannot yet and probably will not be able to retrieve our dbs, including our CCP db.

Q1: What are the odds that CCP has built in cron jobs for the db tables? Probably not but i had to ask.

Questions I have is about running installer. Over the yrs I've had CCP, I've had Nick do a number of code tweaks costing several hundred dollars.. I'm assuming that's all still in place from the files we were able to retrieve.

Q2: If I run installler to rebuild the db structure, will the html/php files we overwritten with original? Might be a stupic question but I want to ask before I run it.

Q3: Is there anything I should consider before running installer?

Thanks.

1. Nope ... the "back up" in CCP simply creates copies of the tables in the same DB.

2. Yes if you tell it to, no by default.

3. When in doubt don't let it overwrite anything.

well it looks like we can't recover our db. So we have to start over.

I'm running installer, but the step 13 quits at about 75%. I choose not to overwrite files. But have now made an archive of the store files to run installer again and overwrite everything.

Re: server crashed, 6000 item db most likely lost, have Q about installer

I finally got it to run successfully.

What I ca't figure out at this point is the store skin seems to have remained intact. But the text I had on the store's home page only shows a default message. The text I had filled the entire whitespace of the home page.  Is that info stored in db or in a file? Probably db. Does that mean all custom pages I created (Web Page management) are gone too?

One other note, I suppose I'll discover this eventually but could you guess at whether or not all of the code tweaks I had Nick do are wiped out? (several hundred dollars worth).

Content pages, like splash etc, are stored in the database so those are gone too.

If you didn't overwrite files and you have all of the files that were on disk none of them should be gone.

Ok. We zipped an archive of the store folder before running installer. So for the tweaked files, I'm guessing if I unzip the archive we can go in and get files if needed. Is there a specific folder that I can import from the archive and replace what's now on the server? Or should I want to see what's missing and then maybe you guys can suggest? Much appreciated.

Server crashes are stressful. Especially when relying on a third party for backup services.

If you didn't overwrite anything then you shouldn't need to replace anything (step 13 is for the database). You'll probably want to simply replace everything but config.php in the private directory since there's a chance the installer put in later code than what you had and were working with (as I recall you've been modifying so fairly old code all along).

Re: server crashed, 6000 item db most likely lost, have Q about installer

its going to be a long process. I was just able to get at least an older cccp0_prod imported, about 5,700 items. Only thing is I was using the hdseo mod and that table has been wiped out. Other things to do as well. The only consolation at this point is that import was successful. Nows it a matter of fixing everything else.

Re: server crashed, 6000 item db most likely lost, have Q about installer

I'm almost back to normal. I had install and overwrite. But I did keep a zipped copy of the original files. SSL is in place, and gateway choices are back up thanks to old postings in this fora.

Next step is regarding the backup files for the store. They contain all of the code tweaks that I did myself, or had paid Nick to do. I'd like to ask before I do this.... is it as simple as copying the archived files to the active store folder? If so, what folders/files should I overwrite? Thanks.

Everything in the private directory. That's where virtually all of the functional code is. Things like category and product displays are in the database (and a few other miscellaneous things).

Re: server crashed, 6000 item db most likely lost, have Q about installer

Thanks Dave.

Another issue that's popped up regarding sales tax calculating. I'm made changes the Manage State/Provinces:
a) US states to not calculate sales tax.
b) Canadian provinces are set to charge tax.

I had my store set up a certain way and cannot recall now how it was done. So I'm looking for some help. For Canadian customers and when they purchase from my store;

a) if the item ships from our Canadian warehouse, I charge the proper tax for their province.
b) If the item ships from our US warehouse, I do not charge sales tax since they will pay at the customs office.

In my db, all the products currently are set:

taxstateprov = 1
taxcountry = 1

Question: So that Canadian customers do not have to pay tax on products coming from our US warehouse do I change values from 1 to 0 for all those products that are in our US warehouse?

Thanks
