Image uploading

I need a faster way to upload images. Do I have to upload
through the program or can I ftp directly to my website?
I have about 600-700 items that have photos and I find this
very slow going.

Any help to speed things up would be appreciated--either for
the photos or adding items.

Use any FTP client to upload the images to the correct directory.  You'll have no problems.  The image upload utility was built for those that don't know how to use FTP.
