Moving website from sub directory to root

When I installed CCP on my server I installed it to a sub directory called store

I did this to get it up and running while I had a website coming soon page in the root.

When I went live I simply changed the welcome page to redirect to the store directory by using:

<?php header('Location: /store/'); ?>

I now wish to move the installation from the store directory into the web root. I have been advised to do this for SEO purposes.

Is this a difficult process? I presume I would have to copy the entire store directory into the root and then run the installation again to update paths to remove store/ from them. Is there anything else I would need to do? Would the database need altering?

I obviously don't want to wreck the site so I thought I would ask before I tried to move it!

Re: Moving website from sub directory to root

What you outlined should do it and that's the procedure outlined in the Wiki.

Re: Moving website from sub directory to root

I am halfway through redoing the installation (Step 5 of 13: Registration Info & Encryption Key) and I am having this error:

The Kryptronic Central Server did not approve the request submitted. The server replied with this message: An error was encountered: The application URL used to submit this request does not match the application URL on record for the license key submitted. The application URL on record appears to be currently active. Please contact Kryptronic at kryptronic.com to resolve this issue.

This program has already been registered and an encryption key has been selected. The software license key and encryption key you submitted when you originally ran this installer script are stored in a read-only format. This information is presented below for you to review. If your contact information has changed, you can update that information using the fields below.

I presume this is because it is registered to:

http://www.originfurnituredirect.co.uk/store

and not

http://www.originfurnituredirect.co.uk/

Can this be rectified? Do I need to contact support to do this? I have UK version so should I contact clickcartpro.co.uk or kryptronic.com?

The URL has been updated and you should be able to continue now.

Re: Moving website from sub directory to root

I'm about to move my site from a sub directory into the root of the domain.
Will I experience this registration problem?

Is there anything I can do in advance to avoid an interuption when re-running the installer?

Re: Moving website from sub directory to root

It's not really a problem but yes, you will experience the same thing.  Nothing you can do about it in advance other than know that it's going to happen and try to do it when I'm awake and can change your license URL for you smile

Re: Moving website from sub directory to root

Actually, if you really do move things and don't copy them you shouldn't run into the license concern.  It should only come into play if CCP is in both places at once (which would be a no-no).

Re: Moving website from sub directory to root

Eastern time in the US (which is 5 hours behind the UK right now I believe).  I'm usually around early on the weekend days but it depends on whether or not I'm doing duty at the fire station.

Re: Moving website from sub directory to root

Sorry for not updating this sooner - the move from a sub-directory into the root of the website went smoothly.
Dave's tip of ensuring the files did not exist in 2 places at the same time avoided the registration/license problem.

Thanks smile

Re: Moving website from sub directory to root

Is there a way of doing this where you don't have to run the installer again?
i.e. changing the config file manually .are there paths in the db to change too.
Thanks in advance

Re: Moving website from sub directory to root

Running the installer will not change or overwrite anything unless you explicitly tell it to. You only need to change the physical paths and URLs.

If you have an .htaccess file in place  you will have to update it.
