My next subscription related question is how I can set them to be preticked when the user first loads the form.
I know this isn't viewed as particularly user-friendly, but it's what the client wants, and so that's what we'll do!
Any help appreciated!

What I did was change the form type to a radio button and have two options: One is to receive the coupon and sales notification and the other is a "no thanks." I changed the field type using the raw database admin and then edited the mailing lists. There may be another way, but I couldn't figure it out.

The default for this field is pulled from the session, so basically you just have to set a session cookie for the field to have it activated. I did the same thing for the ship estimator to pre select country and the rescom field.
