Hi,
We have a problem that apple, comcast and godaddy cannot find a solution to. We work at home and have Macs. We recently purchased a second computer and have it running off of wireless from the first (with airport extreme). We have two different logins to the admin, but the new, 2nd computer is getting bumped out (logged out) and messages saying "the connection was reset" both of these things happen often and randomly. Our firewall is turned off on both computers. We believe that this has something to do with a firewall in kryptronic that maybe it is reading both computers the same or something to that affect. The 2nd computer does not have any problems with being online or at any other site on the internet only when it is logged into admin. The first computer that is plugged right into the airport extreme has no issues.
Does anyone have any ideas? We can't get work done.
PS we set the login time to be 5 hours, so that is not the problem
Thank you : )

Do you have a dynamic IP address? I used to have one and was frequently kicked out of chat using my MacBook. It was really annoying and getting a static IP fixed that problem.

I do not know. Can you explain the differences and how do I get a static ip? Thank you Susan!

When you have a dynamic IP, your ISP may bump you from one IP to another to balance their load. With a static IP, you're always in the same place. There may be some way to configure your router to act as a static IP, but I personally prefer having one. When I you have a dynamic IP, you use a DHCP server which grants you an IP. The request-and-grant process uses a lease concept with a controllable time period, allowing the DHCP server to reclaim (and then reallocate) IP addresses that are not renewed (dynamic re-use of IP addresses). If the DHCP server doesn't think you are active, it can kick you out of your IP addresses, then you have to reconfigure a new one.
You will have to contact your ISP for a static IP. If I recall correctly, AT&T charged me 5.00 a month. I changed to Comcast 12 Mbps service which has a fixed IP and am way happier. When you get your static IP, I would strongly suggest using your firewalls.
I hope this helps.

Is either computer set to sleep after a certain amount of time has passed? If either computer go to sleep any and all connections that they once had will be lost, resulting in the error message you are getting, and will require you to reconnect once they awake. Check your Apple/System Preferences/Energy Saver settings, the screen can be set to sleep but if the computer sleeps you break the connections.
