CCP7 with PHP 5.3.0 Installation....

I have read the posts in the CCP6 forums.  And they say that CCP6  -- IS NOT -- compatible with PHP 5.3.0.

Ok.

Soooo, I upgraded ($99.00) to CCPv7.11

Same errors.

First error was Function split() deprecated.  changed split to explode. Got past that one... Next error is "Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated".

Cant get past this one.  This is during the install process.  It stops on file PEAR.php.  Ive tried the error_reporting(E_ALL ^ E_DEPRECATED); in the php file... no luck...

What gives???

This is allll because of this PCI-DSS compliance BS.  I would have loved to stay with PHP 5.2.x, but, Security Metrics says 5.2.x is a "FAIL".

Apache is 2.2.12
PHP 5.3.0

Help.....

CCP, any version, will not work with PHP 5.3.x at this time.

Re: CCP7 with PHP 5.3.0 Installation....

As listed on the "Current" Product Requirements Page

PHP Configuration Requirements
The following PHP configuration is necessary to run the software:

PHP version: PHP 4.3.0 or newer including PHP5.
PHP.ini: safe_mode set to Off.
PHP.ini: magic_quotes_runtime set to Off.
PHP.ini: file_uploads set to On.
PHP extension: cURL must be loaded.

Notice the "Including PHP5"?????

I understand that an older version of CCP probably wouldnt work with the NOW released version of PHP.  BUT a new version of CCP should work with the new version of PHP...  Makes perfect common sense to me.....

The distribution of Apache/PHP Im using is XAMPP  It comes in 2 flavors.  With PHP 5.2.9 or PHP 5.3.0

If you are going to UP FRONT tell people PHP 5 in your requirements page on your website, PLEASE Make it specific to the EXACT PHP version it will CURRENTLY and ONLY support.  Again, makes perfect common sense to me! Otherwise, people like me will see New version CCP, works with PHP5, New version PHP is 5 point three point zero.  Not knowing any different, and not knowing that Version 7.11 of CCP is not compatible with PHP 5 point three point zero, people like me are going to spend $99.00 on an upgrade for nothing.

Do I sound upset????  Yeah, Im upset.
Not PHP's fault entirely, any software developer should be ON TOP of the latest programming platforms. PERIOD.

Yes and the 5.3.x code stream is a radical departure from the 5.2.x code stream and a precursor to PHP 6.

It may to you but you're lucky to find a hosting provider that will supply the 5.2.x code stream and it's rarer to find one that will support 5.3.x.

You are kidding right?  That's like saying I should already have Windows 7 installed because it was released a couple of weeks ago.  Nobody in their right minds would be using the 5.3.x stream in a production environment yet. It will be many many months before the 5.3.x stream is solid, reliable and code is updated to work with it. One glance at the changes in it and the number of things that were deprecated/removed should be enough.

Then you should state "or newer including PHP5" EXCEPT 5.3

this is why I HATE ccp

I love the app, and have 3 lic. but the dev/doc/"support" team really really needs to get this kind of stuff together.

Re: CCP7 with PHP 5.3.0 Installation....

It's already been updated on the web site.  And why in the world would you

HATE ccp

because of something trivial like this?  Makes no sense to me at all.  99% of the population has no clue what PHP is, nor do they care, and those that do know that 5.3.x is bleeding edge and breaking things left and right.

no- its the lack of details - a "trivial" thing like this caused this guy to upgrade after he read the req. yet it was an unstated caveat that was the issue....thats what i was meaning - the 5.3 is just an example ----  for another example - i came back to ccp for the joomla integration in v7, yet after i got it running i noticed a ton of these little "details" that really hampered my dev progress and possibilities

Umm, so if php 5.4 comes out tomorrow, what window of time would you allow them to edit their site?

"Umm, so if php 5.4 comes out tomorrow, what window of time would you allow them to edit their site?"

dont be a flamer, and show a little consideration
"OR NEWER including PHP5"  is pretty misleading - resulting in him PAYING for an upgrade that didnt suit

its posts/attitudes like yours that make me HATE this cart  when there is a tiny bit of uncertainty/problems

So you hate a software because someone who doesn't even work for nor have any affiliate status with the software manufacture asks you a question after you flame away? :rolleyes"

Re: CCP7 with PHP 5.3.0 Installation....

OK, so this subject has been beaten to death (both in this thread and in others, so to speak; although I note that there is still no apparent progress being made on the development of CCP/Europacart 7.0 for PHP 5.3.x), but I feel it is necessary to contribute some thoughts of my own in support of those, like TexasDragon and digital-outlaw (maybe none-too-well expressed, but several goods points none-the-less).

The first thing, and something that I have held off commenting on in most other threads, is that of the release announcement for PHP 5.3.x, which would have been mid-late 2008, and a good few months prior to the release of the new software (therefore giving plenty of time for some development to be made in making CCP/Europacart 7.0 work, to some degree at least, with the new PHP 5.3.x codestream).

The second, with the above in mind, and bearing in mind that cutting-edge is usually not good for stability (amongst other things), is why could CCP/Europacart 7.0 not have been released as being stable with PHP upto 5.2.12 ...with development core files available from the website for users with PHP 5.3.x on the understanding that those files are development files and are, therefore, not going to offer the same level of stability as those in the main retail package?

Further to that, if the development files were coded from the self-same files as those in the main retail package there should be no worries about them breaking a customer's (uncustomised) store because (due to building on the core files from the main retail package) if they worked for the development team it would follow that they would also work for those who would download them.

This would resolve the problem of misleading advertising and packaging (and yes, as a Trading Standards approved seller I do know about that, BERR requirements, etc. smile) and would leave it upto the software user whether they go for something stable (with PHP 5.2.x) ...or something that could be unreliable and potentially buggy, but which would work on 5.3.x.

Re: CCP7 with PHP 5.3.0 Installation....

Do you REALLY think any software user would be OK with an "unstable" version?  They might say that to get their hands on it, but don't think by any means that they wouldn't hold the developer just as responsible.  That might work with open source code, but not a paid shopping cart IMO.

Re: CCP7 with PHP 5.3.0 Installation....

Personally it is not something I would take a chance on for my main store because I like things to be fully tested in the production environment, but there would be others who would if they knew the code was working, but that there  be issues with it - it would at least silence those who wanted the latest version - and would mean that potential customers could see that CCP/Europacart were being kept up to date, whilst current customers could satisfy an itch for installing their software with PHP 5.3.x if they really wanted (or needed) to.

Some people, including myself and digital-outlaw (by the looks of things), would also download a copy to try out new PHP functionality. - At the moment I am revising my PHP skills, but would like to use pure 5.3.x ...only then I am going to run into problems if I try to apply any new know-how to CCP/Europacart because it is not up to date and many of the code differences are not trivial, either.

Plus, making the development work available on an ongoing basis (even only at beta level) could benefit CCP because the software would then be able to receive feedback from the whole community at a stage where even major core changes could be implemented (hopefully) without having to release a whole new version of the software ...and, yes, people might hold the developer responsible for problems with the latest code, but allot there depends on the skill of the developer - CCP reckons it is (probably) the best, customer support excellent, etc. - so this is yet another chance to prove it!!

Re: CCP7 with PHP 5.3.0 Installation....

My devel codebase (7.1.2), which is pending release after we resolve a couple of customer issues with Google Checkout and PayPal 3D Secure, is fully PHP 5.3 compatible.  I just spent a lot of time going through the code and replacing deprecated functions and methods.  The good news is that the requirements for PHP 5.3 prepares the codebase for PHP 6.  When we release that update those with this cutting-edge version of PHP will be supported.

About time too... will be good to get my shop back, even if I do have to pay for the CCP7 upgrade.

I totally agree I cant believe that they are still selling the product advertising that it is compatible with PHP V5... I only bought this package last week for £180 and feel totally ripped off.

Re: CCP7 with PHP 5.3.0 Installation....

If CCP is advertised as compatible with PHP 5 and it is not - there are several laws being broken.

I don't know whether php 5.3 is good, bad, or indifferent but that's not the point.

The product must be advertised accurately. No arguments - it is the law.
