XHTML email format

Morning all,

I suspect that some of my customers may be unable to receive the default format email notifications, we get quite a lot coming back to us to ask whether their order was successful or when it will be shipped etc. I suspect that some do not allow xhtml format emails, is it possible to send a multi part email so at least they can see some plain text if the xhtml is rejected?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Re: XHTML email format

By default both plain text and XHTML are sent in the notes CCP generates.  You can't disable the plain text version just the XHTML version which means that the notes will always have a plain text version.

Oh ok, thanks Dave. Not sure why so many appear to be bouncing then :-\

Re: XHTML email format

The format of mail items has no relation at all to "bouncing".  What leads you to believe they are bouncing?

Re: XHTML email format

In my experience to date, mail formats are sometimes rejected by the receiving email client or possibly server, I'm not sure whether this can technically be called a 'bounce', the fact is they quite often don't seem to be getting through. It could be that they're not being sent but I can see no reason why some would be and some wouldn't.

Some customers are getting in touch to ask when their orders will be despatched, this is subsequent to our sending an 'order shipped' email (batch shipping module). This is happening a lot more regularly than when we used to send a manual confirmation of despatch.

Re: XHTML email format

Chances are they aren't being rejected, if they were getting bounced you'd get them back, but they are very likely to be ending up in a "spam" folder. This may be done by the receiving mail server or the mail client itself via anti-spam software.  There's really nothing you can do about it I'm afraid.
