Would some of you CCP5 users (and Nick) take a quick visit to my internet store and see how well you think it performs. Overall, I am pretty satisfied with my current web hosting company, and I don't like to make unnecessary changes, but I am just curious how the performance of my CCP5 shopping cart appears to others.
What sort of difference between web hosting companies can make a big difference in the way CCP5 performs?
I have a high speed internet connection, and when I surf my own store doing testing and such, it seems "bearable" to me. Of course, it would always be nice for it to be a bit faster. I don't want to irritate potential customers and scare them off because of a sluggish store.
I am not interested in someone telling me "it's terrible... I own a web hosting company... you really need to sign up with me!"
I am especially interested in Nick's opinion on this.
I really want some unbiased opinions... here's a direct link to my store...

By the way, forgot to mention that business is still booming and I really like CCP5!

I will start right off by telling you I own a hosting company. I checked your site and it seems to run fairly quick. I have definately seen many that are a lot slower. If you want to compare it to some that are running on a 2.0 gig server with 1 gig of ram, check out either of the carts listed below.
Are you running in cvs mode or database?

Those 2 sites you suggested to run very fast and smooth.

Forgot to mention that I am running with a database.

I went to your site (kewl looking by the way!!) The home page took a little bit to load, but after that things seemed definitely acceptable to me.
I'm having some navigating speed issues with my site also right now so I was interested in yours. Check out ours and let me know how you think it compares in speed with yours.

(It's still being put back up after changing host so it is still a work in progress !)

Edward, at 7:30am MDT, your site was coming up relatively fast. Terrileeh, yours was on the slow side. Books category in particular took perhaps 10 seconds to come up.
Thanks for the feedback Quint.

Thank you for your feedback & comments terrileeh. I tried to visit your site, but it looks like the server was down at the time.

Just to experiment, I started surfing some sites (including my own) with a 56K dial up modem. I am so used to my high speed internet connection that it was all PAINFULLY SLOW!
Question I have is....
If most of my customers are using a dial up connection, then what benefit would there be to have a little faster web hosting service if the weakest link in the communication chain is the customer's dial up connection?
Interested in the insights of others on this.

The benefit is that your hosting company is not part of the bottleneck. By serving the pages quicker, then even though the dialup is slower, you have still improved page offering!

I think close to half of all users are on broadband now, and increasing, so the more you can speed up the server, the better. WayneK has an important point about image file size.
Several things you can do to maximize page retrieval are 1) get a fast server, 2) use MySQL, 3) use Photoshop or other program that allows you to color-strip the images to about one third the normal file size, 4) use .gif wherever you can, 5) don't call up too many products on one page.
Maybe
"As of January 2003, broadband users represented fully 53.6 percent of the Canadian online population, compared to just 33.8 percent of the US online population"
But as a dial-up user who will not be able to even get broadband anytime soon, I can tell there will be a lot of us for quite a while.

Thanks again for the input.
