User Nav/scoutch Banned (again)

The user currently known as 'nav' has been banned permanently.  This follows a previous permanent ban on the id 'scoutch'.  As most of you know, 'scoutch' and 'nav' are the same individual.

This ban is the result of this user's flagrant misuse of this forum as a playground for untested code.  Several posts by this user have been detrimental to this community and it's forum.   The purpose of this community is to share ideas and gain success and we are committed to ensuring that mission is accomplished.

The following message has been added to the bottom of all posts by the user id's 'scoutch' and 'nav':

______________________________________________

THIS USER HAS BEEN BANNED FROM THIS FORUM.

If this post contains any language related to
code samples, advice, etc., please read this
entire thread before making a decision to use
this post as a basis for any change to your
software installation.

I will be back on the forum first thing tomorrow AM (06/28/2004) and will update all recent posts with appropriate responses.

Re: User Nav/scoutch Banned (again)

Man... not to jump on the bandwagon or participate in any witch hunts, but I thought it was just me!

In the beginning I would read his posts over and over trying to figure out where it was going...? I had a feeling though and never actually followed through with any of his advice... good intentions gone (very) bad. Too bad really..

I for one have gained 16 months of knowledge from CCP, Nick and this board and while I rarely have anything to contribute (afraid of giving bad advice) our site would not exist without this community!

By far the biggest thing I learned from the first week on is ALWAYS KEEP A BACK-UP. Very little harm can be done trying new things out.. but I always stick a back-up away for a few days after making a change.

Thx.
Billy

Hi Nick

Thanks for that, I had quit a few complaints from UK customers about the poor advice they received from the forum all down to Nav/scoutch.

Great. this is the only guy that responded and was going to help me today. Nick are you going to back this software up and give us what we thought we paid for with a proper instalation? or at least walk me through setting this up?

Re: User Nav/scoutch Banned (again)

Student Filmmakers,

Its a good thing that Nav/Scoutch didn't provide you with the support he had offered, you'll be better off if you tried to look for support elsewhere on this forum.

Nick are you going to back this software up and give us what we thought we paid for with a proper instalation? or at least walk me through setting this up?

Why don't you post your questions on the board and let the community see if we can assist you in the issues?  It seems that every other post I read from you is asking for support, but with no details about what you need.  If you site is up and running, that is all that paid installation supports, anything else is either on a support ticket or through this board.

Re: User Nav/scoutch Banned (again)

I have a sneaking suspicion that Scoutch/Nav has other ID's just in case something like this happened.  He's kinda like a semi-quasi-forum-troll.... if there is such a thing.... he makes a good post followed by several  posts.

Great. this is the only guy that responded and was going to help me today. Nick are you going to back this software up and give us what we thought we paid for with a proper instalation? or at least walk me through setting this up?

I checked your installation for you and it is installed properly.  However, your server is not configured correctly to do secure socket layers which I believe is what you are referring to here.

I would recommend going with a more professional based hosting solution if you want the store to run under SSL upon checkout. It is a server problem and has nothing to do with the software or installation.

Your ssl setup does not point to the same directories that your regular http server requests are sent to.  So either you have to change the SSL configuration or re-install the entire store in the secure directory which is not advisable.

Let me tell you... you don't know how lucky you are that Nick SAVED YOU from him! When I first bought the script and came here for help, scoutch was the first to offer to help me. He did something to my site that caused my web host to disable my site. It took me a week and a lot of help to get my site working again, and the funniest part is that I actually PAID scotch up front (at his request) for his help.

Consider yourself lucky ...

Re: User Nav/scoutch Banned (again)

Todd,

The secure server is set up properly and it is not working for us. Additionally, I can not download the credit card data after it is submitted. How am I to do that? This venture is about selling things online guys not talking tech babble. Further, when I asked for the install I specifically told the guy how our server is set up and that it could be changed in any way to fit the program. How much more flexible do you need it to be?

Rackspace is a good hosting company and they know how to set up a server properly besides the point that I gave your installer full control of the machine. What do you mean you would not recommend it? You are not clear. I am looking for a solution if you have one then please lay it out now. This program is too difficult to use. I want a refund if we can't get some serious solution oriented conversations going. I will file complaints as high as I can go to let people know that this program is difficult and clunky and you can not get good support. I gave the person root access and access to the techs at rackspace for the install and I paid my money. It should have been done then and there correctly or I should have been given a reason and a clear path to a solution or a refund.

Re: User Nav/scoutch Banned (again)

It turns out this server configuration will not allow for the ./data directory stored in the non-secure account to be accessed via the secure account.  Unfortunately, with that setup, running via SSL without a custom script is not possible.  I have informed this user and provided further info via email.

This software is extremely user friendly and the support from both the suppliers and members of this forum is first class.

I have had no experience of coding since Sinclair Basic 20 years ago but by reading the forum and a lot of patience even I have made some sense of the capabilities of the software.

Do not let this quote put you off - it is not representative of everyones experience!!

Buy it and Enjoy it!!

WOOOHOOOO!

OK, it is safe to come back to the forum!   Once upon a time I was a daily poster here, helping where I could.  However that $%#@#$ user drove me nuts.  I spent far more time trying to figure out what in the heck he was trying to say or accomplish.

I'll try and do my part around here and help where I can.

Re: User Nav/scoutch Banned (again)

It was his avatar that got me (oh and the amazing look of his website on Safari... - but it has gone now.)

When I first came to CCP I did so nearly try to follow some of his advice, based on the number of posts that he had. I had to get a quite odd mod of the program up in about 4 days (Online registration for conferences).  If I had followed some of his recommendations two conferences would now have passed by, empty....

as a newbie to a forum I used to think number of posts was a clue as the the quality of the advice.    :-(   but not any more

I have to say, I did wonder how he found the time to make all the posts...

Re: User Nav/scoutch Banned (again)

He use to say a lot to email Nick this or email Nick that.  The people that needed help didn't come here for someone to tell them to email someone else for help.  The main purpose for this forum is TO HELP PEOPLE not to say "you need to email Nick".  What would be the point in having this forum if we all had to email Nick for a question and Nick always responding to questions there would be no zuma!!

Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water...

Duh-nuh, duh-nuh-nuh-nuh...

Don't let your guard down, just because he's banned, doesn't mean he's gone.

Where's Roy Scheider when you need him?

Matt

(PS for the benefit of the Under-30 set:  the above is a movie reference.)

Never used this avatar as much as I was tempted to, but this seems like appropriate thread to show it for a little while.
