core_sessions with more than 13 million records

Today I found out, that the core_sessions table has more than 13 million records. I don't know why. Unfortunately we don't have so many customers. Can I empty this table?

Yes, you can empty this table.  I assume you're on a V8 or early K9 and may have the setting to store sessions set to forever (check System / Component / Settings / Cron Settings).  Later versions of K9 don't have this setting.  Execute these three statements one at a time in order to properly clean everything:

DELETE FROM core_sessions

UPDATE core_users SET lastsid=''

DELETE FROM ecom_cart

One or more of these statements may log you out if you execute them in Raw DB Admin, FYI.  If this happens, log back in and finish the rest.
