Realtime Carrier Shipping Overcharging on Multiple Items

I'm having a problem with my cart way overcharging on shipping multiple items.  Single items are calculated perfectly.  Everything is set as group together but when at checkout it increases the shipping as if each item is being shipped individually or worse.  I never had this problem on the previous version of CCP but I can't seem to figure out what I've got wrong.  Example of orders gong coast to coast UPS ground (USPS does the same but worse):

Helmet 10x10x10 box size at 4lbs $17.15
Visor 10x10x10 box at 1lbs $8.35

Helmet + Visor $26.12
Helmet + 2 visor $33.55

2 Visors $26.12
3 Visors $33.55

Any info is very appreciated.

Adam

Check the rating on the shipper's site directly.  When you have a shipment of one helmet and one visor, based on the dimensions you've entered, your package would be rated at 10x10x20 @ 6lbs.

Re: Realtime Carrier Shipping Overcharging on Multiple Items

Thanks for the reply.  It's running about $5 more expensive in the cart vs Worldship.   Part of the problem is that adding multiple visors doesn't change the actual shipping cost when coupled with other items as they can be stacked and shipped in a 10x10x10 box.

Is there any way to set it so that it doesn't add additional shipping charges (or dimensions) after the base shipping charge (for stackable items)?  I just had a guy order a helmet with three visors and the shipping was over $60.

Thanks again!

Use the nesting feature in the shipping dimension setup for inventory items.  Nest those items at an additional half inch or something to that effect and you should be good to go.

Re: Realtime Carrier Shipping Overcharging on Multiple Items

Is this something you turn on or are you saying if I make each product (and each variation of that product) a half inch smaller they will automatically nest?  i.e.

Helmet 10in
Visor Blue 9.5in
Visor Clear 9in
etc.

I suppose that there is no fix if they are ordering two of the same nestable item (two clear visors)?

Thanks!

Re: Realtime Carrier Shipping Overcharging on Multiple Items

Update:

I've changed the dimensions like you said and it definitely helped.  It increases the shipping by $3 for an additional 1 lbs.  If I add a second of the same smaller dimension item, it then increases it by $27 for USPS.  The shipping totals are as follows:

                             USPS     UPS
1 Helmet             - $17.15 - $18.01
1 Helmet 1 Visor - $20.05 - $21.61
1 Helmet 2 Visor - $47.10 - $29.10
1 Helmet 3 Visor - $53.65 - $34.75

I assume that it won't allow me to nest multiple smaller items in the larger box?

Re: Realtime Carrier Shipping Overcharging on Multiple Items

Be sure you empty your whole cart then add the items.  I'm not sure if what you're seeing are cached dimensions on some.  Sorry I forgot to mention that.

Re: Realtime Carrier Shipping Overcharging on Multiple Items

Cart was emptied.

I think I've gotten it to be at least passable.  I put the smaller item down to 5" because USPS doesn't seem to care about anything under 12" and that helped a lot more.

Excellent.  Sometimes you do need to fool with the dimensions a bit to get things optimal.
