Change Display Order of Inventory Offer Items on Product Page

How can we change the order in which inventory offer items are displayed on a product offer page?

At present we have a modified version of a product that appears above the standard version so most people are choosing the wrong one. They are arranged in the correct order under "Configure - All Types".

If these were entered in the management interface for the product offer, they should be displaying in the right order.  The order is controlled by the ecom_pricemap.sortorder column, which is set based on the order in which you enter the inventory items when managing the product offer.  Would assume you loaded or changed data outside that interface.
