Hi
I propose
IcecatPIM and icecat catalog integration. This would take the cart to another level again.
what's the chances of something like this being added in future versions?

Nice proposal.
Getting an Icecat product data sheet module together would be fairly trivial. I'll put that on the list for post-release development. Very similar to what's done for GoogleBase.
Loading vendor, manufacturer, category, inventory, product and option data via an IcecatPIM integration would be well beyond the scope of anything we'd consider releasing without a substantial sponsorship (via Custom Shop job) from a client like yourself. But it can be done, and would be awesome.

Hi Nick
The Icecat product data sheet module would that be able to pull in details from the open database ( http://icecat.co.uk/ ). I assume when you say trivial you mean it would just use the icecat javascript call to just display real time product information retrieved from icecat in the store but not actually import the product details into the cart database for permanent storage?

That's the big job:

What if you take the PIM out of the picture. Just pulling product information directly from icecat database into Europacart? The module would have to parse the XML datasheet from icecat and then map/feed into a product structure in Europacart. That would allow storage. Couldn't that be done as a module?

You're asking if PIM could be taken out of the picture and direct XML download and parsing be handled in V9. Yes, that could be done as well, and would be simpler than doing an integration with PIM, and more desireable. It's a fairly complicated, big job, which (up to this point) there has been no demand for, therefore anyone wanting something like this should speak up, or someone should sponsor the module through a custom shop job.

Yes - I would love icecat integration. I am looking at using stockinthechannel.co.uk and they use icecat for their feeds. They currently heavily promote using Magento shopping cart.
Nick - when you say sponsor a module..... Any idea of ballpark pricing for this sponsorship? Are we talking 50/500/5000 dollars or more? Just a general idea would be great.

We need to look at what the module will cost to build. That's based on specs, time estimated and the hourly rate, discounted based on anticipated demand, and then split by the number of sponsors. So to arrive at a cost, we first need to know the specs, or scope. What is it exactly that you guys are looking to do? How far do you want to go with it? How many sponsors might there be for this?

Hi
Can some sort of vote be setup on the forum to determine the number of sponsors. Maybe you could make it sticky so it remains in focus at the top of the board. Hopefully there will be enough interest to bring the cost down.
