V9 DEV Links - Product Options are Dead (Kind Of)

Product options have drastically changed in V9 and have become all but irrelevant for most stores.  The new system uses Inventory Items (SKUs) and the ability to bundle them, so options have been relegated to addon services, non-inventoried color choices, and the like.  Maybe a few examples of how this is setup will help those of you planning on doing an upgrade:

# Product Offer (SG Guitar) tied to a single Inventory Item (D100STD) with addon Inventory Items Cable (D760) and Picks (D770) shown as options (they are not options, they are inventory item addons):

https://kryptronic.com/DEV/public/Item/ … ric-Guitar

# Product Offer (Citrus Amp) tied to a single Inventory Item (D420STD) with an actual product option for an extended warranty:

https://kryptronic.com/DEV/public/Item/ … -Amplifier

# So how do you sell similar inventory items in different variations?  Easy.  Product offer (Delay Pedal) has multiple Inventory Items as available choices (D510STD, D510XTR, D510REV):

https://kryptronic.com/DEV/public/Item/ … elay-Pedal

# Just for fun, because I'm posting some links, here's a package deal, which is a single product offer that bundles one or more inventory items together:

https://kryptronic.com/DEV/public/Item/ … mp-Package

# And the most complex, the multiple choice exam equivalent of all product offers, the custom package (you'll see product options for those amps - the warranty is available there):

https://kryptronic.com/DEV/public/Item/ … Guitar-Rig

# Not all product offers need to be for inventory items, though.  Services can be sold, as well as gift certificates and customer inputted price services:

https://kryptronic.com/DEV/public/Item/Gift-Certificate
https://kryptronic.com/DEV/public/Item/DEMO-740

If you look at the V8 demo online (https://kryptronic.com/demo), you'll notice heavy product option usage on the build your own package, and you can see how that transfers into real trackable inventory on the same type of offer in V9.

Re: V9 DEV Links - Product Options are Dead (Kind Of)

There is A LOT of new stuff going on here.

Are the Effects tables in the product listing and sub-category manually created or V9 generated?

The little symbols are super-cool.

Re: V9 DEV Links - Product Options are Dead (Kind Of)

You're looking at a new category display type called 'Category Feature Grid'.  That's turned on at the category level and when active, includes an inline listing of subcategories with products, each in a feature grid.  The features are inputted on the product level and compiled together for that view.  The whole thing is all-new and all-different.  You can mix and match this.   For example, here's the guitars category, which uses the feature grid:

https://kryptronic.com/DEV/public/Category/Guitars

And here are those same guitars in the manufacturer listing (auto-generated), which for that manufacturer we're using a standard display:

https://kryptronic.com/DEV/public/Manuf … id-Guitars

Re: V9 DEV Links - Product Options are Dead (Kind Of)

OK so if you have a product in different colours and sizes which you want to track stock on and submit individually to google this will work correctly? Our colour choices want to be inventoried.

Re: V9 DEV Links - Product Options are Dead (Kind Of)

Yes.  You'd set up one product offer, which is submitted to Google and will include all size info, etc.  You'd tie X number of inventory items to that offer, each in different colors, and it would be an 'Inventory Items' type offer (standard shipped offer).

Re: V9 DEV Links - Product Options are Dead (Kind Of)

Can you just clarify if the Inventory Item holds the GoogleBase details (i.e. MPN, GTIN, etc) and not the Product Offer.

Is the Product Offer in effect the product page (title, tags, html description, etc) that can be used to offer/sell one or more Inventory Items.

If that is correct then I think I get it.

Re: V9 DEV Links - Product Options are Dead (Kind Of)

The GoogleBase feed has product offers in it and their URLs in it, which sell inventory items.  You have the ability to enter the MPNs, GTINs, etc. for the feed on the offer level for any inventory items you're selling with that offer.  So, yes, it works as you would like.

Re: V9 DEV Links - Product Options are Dead (Kind Of)

Hmm, was actually hoping for more advanced options configuration.

In V9 how would I set up a computer has lots of drive options, memory options, os options and accessories ?

e.g

Re: V9 DEV Links - Product Options are Dead (Kind Of)

coatzel21:

gfrracing is correct, all of those drive options become inventory items and the whole offer functions like the build your own guitar rig demo item he linked to in post 9.

gfrracing:

I would note a preorder item as preorder in the name. Ie: 'Item - PREORDER Arrives May 1' to be completely clear without doubt, but you could make that an option for the inventory item that is required, that perhaps they have to check 'I understand this is a preorder that will not ship until May 1', etc.

For the inventory item, I'd make use of a few new features in V9.  First, I'd set the inventory item to use the local declining balance style inventory type, set inventory to 0, and set oversell to 5000 (or whatever the max you know you can eventually order of the item will be).  When these items are ordered, the inventory will go into an on sales order state, and will not be shippable as there's none in stock.  The inventory on sales order will count against what you're overselling, so you will not sell more than you've set for the oversell amount.

On May 1 when you get the item in stock, all you have to do is enter the inventory you received, and set oversell to 0.  At that point all the items pending shipment will be released (or as many as can be, depending on how much inventory you received), and everything will work as expected.  The item will either show in or out of stock on the site depending on whether your inventory exceeds the number of items on sales order.

It's built right.

Re: V9 DEV Links - Product Options are Dead (Kind Of)

Ok, and i figure the software update will transfer all existing products and product options to the new inventory system?

With V9 is it possible to make auto selections, For example someone selects a drive, after making that selection they would only see Operating Systems  compatible with that drive.

Re: V9 DEV Links - Product Options are Dead (Kind Of)

Another question regarding inventory items concerns the "Receive In Stock Notification" link.

If you have say 2 or more inventory items on a page and one or more is out of stock, will they disappear like option selection items do at present or will they remain visible on the page and show "out of stock" and have the Receive In Stock Notification email link?

Re: V9 DEV Links - Product Options are Dead (Kind Of)

sdn: Here's an item set up with multiple inventory items to choose from (radio choices, but select is an option), where one is OOS:

https://kryptronic.com/DEV/public/Item/ … tion-Pedal

You can see the OOS item is pulled out and presented below the items you can add, and has a stock notification.

Re: V9 DEV Links - Product Options are Dead (Kind Of)

Will there be a way i can set up a reserve and collect in store option on the new system?

We sell school uniform so we are always building up stock, so don't  want to miss out on a sale, can they still purchase even though the item is out of stock ?.

Will the system give you the option to have multiple size selection?

Thanks Daren

Re: V9 DEV Links - Product Options are Dead (Kind Of)

I really prefer the radio option there, but you've found you've got dropdowns (good for when you have a bunch of choices like color/size, or when you don't have images for your inventory items), and quantity inputs as well.  Thanks for pointing those out, lgt.  Custom Packages have a similar setting.

Re: V9 DEV Links - Product Options are Dead (Kind Of)

To cover everything, the manual is going to weigh 30 lbs- that's for the electronic version!  It's going to take two weeks to print it all out.

The interface feels familiar, but the options and flow are radically different.

The learning curve is steep. But Oh, Man! What a view from the top!

Right now I'm looking more forward to the bulk loader/price editor over Amazon/eBay mod.

I'll likely have those installed for you tomorrow night.  I need to have them done for a launch I'm doing Wednesday AM.  Today three extension modules were completed that tie the new email list system into Constant Contact, iContact and Mail Chimp.

Re: V9 DEV Links - Product Options are Dead (Kind Of)

Looks cool. So I take it that the Inventory Item AddOns are the kind of dead version of product options?

Re: V9 DEV Links - Product Options are Dead (Kind Of)

Product Options is gone.  However, Option Selection Items (Now just called Options) is alive and well.  As with so many things, the function is entirely different.
Options are tied directly to Inventory Item (or multiple Items).  They are not counted in inventory so if one is sold/shipped, it has to be manually taken out of inventory.

There are work arounds for this

http://855sheller.com/V9/V9-025.png

As you can see, the Inventory Items AddOns functions similarly.  AND it has the benefit of deducting from inventory any selected items.

http://855sheller.com/V9/V9-026.png

Creating an Option (not shown), then going to the Inventory Items selection and checking the box....

http://855sheller.com/V9/V9-027.png

Displays this:

http://855sheller.com/V9/V9-028.png

As you can see, when the Model 640 is selected, there is an additional option available.  There can be any number of Options, but they won't be grouped like what happened with the retired Product Options.

Re: V9 DEV Links - Product Options are Dead (Kind Of)

(1) They will be grouped ala V8 style if you're selling as a service or just one inventory item in your product offer.

(2) Options are not designed to be inventoried items.  The addons you pointed to are inventory items.  If you want to give an option for an addon inventory item, use an addon.  If you want to give the customer an actual option choice for an inventory item they're buying, that's an option.

Re: V9 DEV Links - Product Options are Dead (Kind Of)

Our Version 8 Product Options that increased the price of the basic item seem to work, but those that reduced the price seem to fail in Version 9.

How do we fix that?

And, where are they in Version 9?
