Is there a way to have the main site shown in Tablets and the Mobile Skin to show only on phones?

You'll need to mod {private}/core/CORE_Session/CORE_Session.php to do that. Look in the idmobile() function and get rid of all conditions where tablets are identified.

Thank you Nick. Any way you can send me the file with the fix. It is very long and lots of devices to remove.. If V9 will have this capability I can wait?

Submit a request through the ticket system if you'd like a modified file. The next version of the software is responsive, so there is no mobile identification list in it.

Will V9 be a new install or just updated through the V8 installer?

So, we will need to set up rules for re-direct from V8 to V9?

When I went from 7 to 8 my ranking took a big hit. The rewrites worked great but my rankings when down significantly. I have treat my site as new and need to start fresh until my rankings started coming back. Can anything be done about this issue? If not, it may make me wait a long time before going from 8 to 9.

I hope the new mobile version will be lean, fast and functional.

jonaha: I think alot of the issues you experienced going from 7 to 8 were self induced in the way you launched the version 8 site. If I remember correctly, you changed install directories and didn't do proper rewrites initially until Google started reporting 404s. I could be incorrect about your situation, and if I am, I apologize, but if that's what happened, you should have expected a drop with those 404s being generated.
sdn: We've taken the term 'mobile version' and thrown it out the window with what's been developed. Our software's next display system is a mobile (we call it 'thin') first responsive system built on a 3 breakpoint layout grid. The new widget system interacts seamlessly with the grid and transitions over breakpoints in a very smooth fashion. There is no more 'mobile version' or 'desktop version'. There is one version of the site that can be viewed any way you want (thin, mid or wide). For some of you CSS nuts out there, we're using flexbox with a float/clear fallback. The grid system is homegrown and supports up to 8 boxes per row, collapsed or separate, or 2 or 3 column percentage-based boxes. It has plenty of modifiers and override classes as well. Javascript is used to enhance some of the menu effects, but CSS hover capabilities are used and no JS is technically required for any of it to work. Don't get me started on the new widget system. It's awesome. And the system CSS now has the ability to invert your display (white to black) in certain areas automatically. You're going to like it.

Hi Nick,
I think you have me mixed up with someone else. You did the upgrade for me and the rewrite rules. They worked great, but I took a big SEO hit. I think that google picks up any redirect and penalise the site. Eventually I got my traffic back but it took a lot of time and work.
I am looking forward to V9, hopefully before April 19 when google will start rejecting sites that are not mobile friendly.
