I am starting to think proactively about resilience for one of our sites.
We take backups (sql dump and ftp the files), but I am interested in what sort of services others have used that may be automated - I would like to take daily backups for instance rather than take manually ones whenever I have the time or am feeling sufficiently paranoid.
In addition has anyone looked at implementing some sort of failover for automatic recovery of a CCP site onto a different server should the primary host fail?
Any suggestions/advice?

On our managed hosting servers, we use the data center's backup facilities to do full backups of everything weekly, and incremental backups daily. Those are stored and ready to restore at a moment's notice for 21 days. We find this solution the best for most sites.

Great. But we wouldn't use US located servers as they would negatively impact our largely UK orientated SEO, I believe.
Any other suggestions, anyone?

It's debatable as to whether or not Google *likes* .co.uk sites to be hosted in the UK or not. Nobody really knows the answer to that. Look for a host in the UK with a similar system - it's fairly common.
