When I log in as a user and press the page refresh I immediately get logged out which is a bit annoying
At wwwwel.biz I have some categories set up for wholesale accounts only so when logging in I refresh the screen to see the categories previously suppressed come up
Try logging in as user: Joe@Bloggs.com pass: Bloggs and press the screen refresh you will see that you immediately get logged out - this happens both in chrome and firefox (not tried IE)
Is there anyway to stop this please?
Thanks

I'm not getting logged out.
Are you sure you're not logging into the admin under a different username at the same time??
Do you get the same behaviour if you only have one window open??

Have you got suppress SID set to true here:
Location: System Dashboard > System > Component > Settings > Search Engine Optimization Settings
If your browser is blocking cookies and this is set to true, you will be logged out everytime.

Sometimes this will happen if you have two browsers open and using the store and backend at the same time. Login status on one affects the other if you're using the same id with the same session id.

Clear your cookies from your browser and access the system and login then move around the site. Does the problem persist? I'm thinking at this point you may have a conflict with a cookie in your browser due to possibly installing using one set of cookie settings and changing them later. Not sure, but clear your cookies and try again to see if that helps. Nobody else can replicate the issue. So let's rule out a local cookie issue.

I have my CCP8 backend session set to 6000 minutes and still get logged out after about 30 or so minutes. Not logged in elsewhere - this is consistent.
php.ini session.gc_maxlifetime is also set to days - or do you use only cookies? Well, those are set to days in CCP8.
Any other ideas other than clearing cookies?

Just tried that Nick - still same problem after clearing all browsing data in chrome and firefox
You are right - if I wander around the site after logging in I have no problems - its just that immediately after logging in I do a screen refresh and then immediately get logged out automatically!

Are you doing a refresh using F5 or Ctrl-R? If so the cookie hasn't been "set" and being logged out is to be expected. If you navigate to any other page the cookie should "stick".

If you do a screen refresh on the login screen after processing it, it will refresh the login page which will automatically log you out. Don't do a refresh on the resulting page after logging in.

OK I can understand this but the software should be consistent i.e.
If I have category assigned to a wholesaler - the wholesale only visible category disappears automatically when the wholesaler logs out
When the wholesaler logs in he must 'travel' around the site first for the wholesale only visible categories to appear

Under System > Component > Settings > Ajax Settings, set 'Enable Login Ajax Updates' to false. You fall into the category of people who should do this based on the instructions for that setting:
"Select true to enable ajax updates for users when logging in. This setting is only valid when you choose to enable ajax updates for the account section. This setting should be disabled on sites where menus used in the display skin contain account-specific links."

We keep getting logged out of the backend before the settings in CCP. We can be logged out in minutes, not hours as CCP is configured for Admin users.
Could working in the backend being logged in and then browsing the store with same browser, and possibly checking out as a guest or something else, be responsible for this premature backend logout problem?

Yes, that is the issue. To prevent this, it's best to use a different browser when testing. For example, use IE to test logging in/out on the store side while using FF to change settings, etc. If you logout on the frontend, you will log yourself out of the backend as the session is the same for both (tied to the same user account).
