Hi problem sorted,
it appears that my config file has strangely decided to add @localhost on the end of my database username , this has happened on two of my clickcart shops on the same day but eight hours apart and coincidentally on the day when heart internet upraded by default to php5
i will be watching my other sites with interest

Do you mean your CCP config file? If so, change the file permissions to read only since CCP should be done writing to it until you run an upgrade at which point, the installer will tell you to set it to read/write. Then you wont have to worry about it changing without your approval.
