I want to steer my client away from AmeriCommerce and to CCP7 but there is an option that AmeriCommerce offers hat I hope that CCP 7 has now.
My client requires a "Department Login area" where he can display customized police and fire badges especially selected for specific police/fire departments. This would be a passworded area that different departments can access to view badges and pricing especially for them. This would be part of the cart but a different section that would only show products for that specific department depending upon the user used. I can only think that it might be an affiliate option but it can only show certain items when they login. It will be titled "Department Login".
Can this be done with CCP7? I would rather work with the new CCP7 then struggle with AmeriCommerce and ASP.
thanks,
Daniel

In both ccp6 and ccp7 you can limit who see categories and or products by restricting them to there user id's, not exactly a separate login but it is workable.

He requires a separate login for prople to access their separate departments and badge options. Can the cart be tweaked to offer this option? Basically a button thay leads to a page the a user and password can be added to enter the various departments.
Here is what he has already but needs this option transfered to the new cart.

Yes - this can be done with CCP7. Simply create a new user group based on the 'Basic Account' group. This is done in the management interface under:
System > User Accounts > User Groups
Choose to clone the 'Basic Account' and call it *whatever*. Then, when adding products and categories, set the visibility options so those products and categories are only visible to that group - or perhaps that group and administrators.
Afterwards, customers will only see those special items for the *whatever* group if they're logged into an account that belongs to that group. You can do the same for webpages too.

Will that provide the client with a page that offers a user and password field for the department member to fill out to enter their private area to view their products and special pricing? If so that sounds great.

He wants a separate button that says "Department Login" that is separate from the main account login. Will CCP7 create a separate page similar to the one below?

You can clone the existing login information and create a new function to handle the new namespace and then create a specific department log in page but it would still do the same as the basic log in screen (only letting customers see what is set for there logged in group) it would just have different wording. You would have to set up a group for each department, and either let them share one set of login details or manually switch each customer to there specific group, that is if you don't create a custom mod to handle that for you which should be possible.

Great Nick . . . also can the cart admin specify what products will appear in the login area after the Department has logged in? He needs to show only the specific badges that are connected to that specific police department with their custom pricing. In other words will the cart only show the badges related to the department login user after they login and drop off all the other badges not related to that specific login name?
thanks,
Daniel

Yes. Those products will only be available to members of whatever group you assign them to if you use the visibility controls as I outlined above.
It will work for you.
