I use Peachtree, and I am well established with it so it would be hard to change now, however I wish I would have chosen Quickbooks when I started as their is way more support and add-ons for it. I have never used it, but it seems more people use it than Peachtree and thus their is way more help and extras available. IMO.

People who like PT are usually accountants. People who like QB are usually not accountants. About 10 times as many people use QB as PT. QB made add-on programs their #1 priority, while PT practically wiped out all their add-on developers. It is, therefore, far more likely that you and your customers and suppliers can exchange information with each other, or get custom industry add-ons, with QB than PT.

I am a consultant who specializes in Accounting Systems so I know both packages very well. Peachtree is a far more superior package over Quickbooks and can handle a ton more data than Quickbooks. One huge limitation with QB is that the more data you load into it, the slower it gets. I've had clients switch over to QB only to find themselves constantly archiving data because it slows down too much.
From an accountants point of view, Peachtree is stronger in accounting as well. With the Internal Audit feature, it catches transactions that can cause you problems and even questionable transactions that may slip through the cracks. Another cool feature with Peachtree Quantum is their workflow feature that allows you to assign transaction to employees while entering in transactions. For example, after entering in an Purchase Order you can assign a task to the warehouse alerting them of the purchase order. Another nice feature is that you have to close out years so you can lock transactions down. With Quickbooks, you can enter in transactions for any year, any date at any time which can cause you problems with the IRS or employees can use to steel money from you.
As for the add-on's, Peachtree did redo their API kit to lock down their files. They did this because they wanted to make sure that when an application interfaces to Peachtree, it follows all the proper business logic and rules so the data is intact. Their new COM interface did accomplish just that. Sage has also gotten stronger in their position on listing add-ons to their website as well. In order to be listed, the developer needs to pay Sage to have them test out the program to make sure it doesn't cause Peachtree to crash or distroy the data. But once it passes, then Peachtree will list the program on their website as a certified program.
So in my opinion Peachtree is the stronger accounting package. It may not have all the add-ons that Quickbooks has but the add-ons that do exist have gone through major testing and is guaranteed to work perfectly with Peachtree.
Hope that helps.
