Re: ClickCartPro 7 - Initial Thread From CCP6 Forum

Nick,

This looks great.  I understand why you chose Joomla but how about any support for Drupal? Drupal seems to be ahead of the game when it comes to CMS.

No plans for Drupal.  It's a much more "techie" CMS when compared to Joomla even if it is superior in some aspects.

Re: ClickCartPro 7 - Initial Thread From CCP6 Forum

Now everyone is really excited, cut to the chase and tell us how much!!
Will it be a free upgrade from 6?
Will it be a simple seamless job to change from 6 to 7?
Is this just the rearend (or backend is it?) of the program or will it change the 'look' of the shop online?
Google checkout......... i'd pay for this as a seperate mod and is desperately needed! Can currently be paying near on 70 for some of my products on processing fees, as opposed to half that with GC.

Looks like you've been working hard at it though, well done!

A lot of it is on the admin side but there's a bit of change on the front end too.

The introductory price will be $199 for the full version and $129 for the upgrade.  For those with XMODs on their v6 installs, the XMODs will transfer over during the upgrade without additional charge.

Hi Dave,

Will the same upgrade price applied for those of us who bought the software within the last month?

I assume upgrade means anyone who owns v6.0?

Re: ClickCartPro 7 - Initial Thread From CCP6 Forum

would the upgrade be seamless "like from ccp v6X to ccp v6Z" or it would be a complete new install? - what about the skins, would they be affected "in need of an upgrade too" or not? - the "overexcitement" about joomla compatibility speaks volumes about the level of knowldge of e-commerce field in general that some users exibit - this is and should remain a separate e-commerce solution not moved towards some sort of "other's platform" addon/hack and therefore upgrades should be focused on e-commerce functionalities otherwise it would end up as aanother vanila shopping carts out there, and really don't we have enough choice allready for that!? - your "no nonsense" and straight approach on developing this product sofar, is the reason many experienced integrators choose your product over others - it is my personal view that you should keep focused on bringing your product on linee with real e-commerce requirement "where it lacks" and improve those that are there allready, and not be sway by those desperate crying for meaningless features - that way you'll always be able to justify any cost increase or charges you might wish to apply - i'd purchase your software at a full price "299USD" and I should not have a problem to pay for an upgrade if the cost is justified from a real business point of view based on real ecommerce feature expectations/requirement and not cosmetic changes - i'm not saying that either one is the case yet as I'll have to wait and see the full "details" when they would become available, the only thing I hope is that at least this time business logic will win at the expense of nonsense. - only time will tell...

I don't have an answer for that Carlos.

It will be seamless to the extent that is possible.

webgonet wrote:

That really depends on the skin being used and how much it has been modified.

Being able to use CCP within the context of Joomla or any other CMS is exactly like it sounds.  Within the context of not "dumbed down" as you infer.  CCP will remain CCP with all of its functionality intact.

Re: ClickCartPro 7 - Initial Thread From CCP6 Forum

webgonet:

Thanks for your message.

The development effort for CCP7 has been focused on making core improvements to ClickCartPro to make it easier to use and understand and to add functionality into the base program that benefits all CCP users.  I can see where by looking at a few screenshots and the published features list one might assume we simply gave the management interface a facelift and slapped a new version number on it.  This couldn't be further from the truth.  We have focused this release on usability for store owners and the integration of must-have features for those store owners.

Please believe me when I say ClickCartPro is not being reduced to a Joomla plugin.  While many so-called e-commerce products for Joomla are just plugins, what we've done for that integration is really cool.  ClickCartPro will operate as a standalone e-commerce product with all the features, security and stability you have grown to love.  The CMS portion of CCP has been reworked in version 7 to allow users to install support for webpages and dynamic forms, or to not install that support.  If they choose not to install CMS support in CCP, obviously they will need a CMS - and that's where the Joomla connection comes in.

Our Joomla integration is two-tiered.

TIER 1: The first tier is in ClickCartPro itself where users will have the ability to use a skin from their Joomla install and have it seamlessly work on their e-commerce pages generated by ClickCartPro.  Additionally the ClickCartPro tier includes functionality to sync the ClickCartPro user database with Joomlas to allow a single-sign-on for the two applications.  You can choose not to sync the two up in CCP.

TIER 2: The second tier is implemented in Joomla in the form of add-ons.  There is a Joomla component add-on (ClickCartPro Connector for Joomla) that provides a way for ClickCartPro to talk to Joomla via an XML web interface for the purposes of importing skins and managing users and single-sign-on.  There is a Joomla plugin add-on which facilitates logging into CCP when users log into Joomla.  Lastly, there are Joomla modules which allow portions of CCP to be included in the Joomla skin.

Taking this approach has tied the two standalone applications together without user-required mods to either.  Joomla support is in CCP7 and can be turned on in the management interface if our users choose to.  CCP7 support has been added to Joomla in the form of add-ons which are installed by Joomla users without affecting either the Joomla base application or any installed add-ons.  Upgrades to either system are allowed and will work going forward.

Re: ClickCartPro 7 - Initial Thread From CCP6 Forum

When upgrading to CCP7, will the CCP6(UK version) -> CCP7(universal version) change it's tables to ccp prefix instead of the gbu0?

Is the switch over instantaneous or can we continue to work with a live install of CCP6 until we are happy that everything is working with CCP7 before switching over?

Re: ClickCartPro 7 - Initial Thread From CCP6 Forum

The new CCP7 uses new db prefixes:

'core_' instead of 'khxc_'
'ecom_' instead of 'ccp0_' or 'gbu0_'

Therefore you can install v7 and run v6 at the same time until you are ready to switch over.

Re: ClickCartPro 7 - Initial Thread From CCP6 Forum

I'm curious now... what happens with orders and new accounts and stats? Is it possible to 'transfer' it over to v7 since we aren't actually 'upgrading' v6 to v7? We install v7 fresh and new, customize it, make sure it works fine, then we want to go live with v7, what happens with existing orders, accounts and stats? Also is the SEO code re-written so that our current htaccess files might need re-writing?

Re: ClickCartPro 7 - Initial Thread From CCP6 Forum

There will be an importer much like there was from 5.1 to 6 which will move categories, products, orders and users into V7 for you.

Re: ClickCartPro 7 - Initial Thread From CCP6 Forum

Do you know if there will be a user manual for CCP7 that is at least as comprehensive as the one for CCP6?

Thanks,

It's already being worked on and we think you'll find that it is even better than the version 6 manual.

Re: ClickCartPro 7 - Initial Thread From CCP6 Forum

Dave, I never imported 5.1 to 6.0 (i couldn't get it working, even though others were successful) - but site wasn't live so I just manually created the product table - so I don't know the 'details' of how it works. Let me know if this makes sense. I install v7 on my site (e.g. /htdocs/ccp7/ (so it's not in root, which is where ccp6 is))...I customize ccp7, whether in a day or for weeks, until I'm comfortable with it, then I can run the importer to bring in only categories, products, orders and users? If I'm comfortable that its good to go live, I copy the files in htdocs/ccp7/ to /htdocs/ so it's in root (along with running installer to change references to directories locations)?
