Hello ClickCartPro users.
It is with great joy that I make this post regarding the next version of ClickCartPro - version 7. We have been working on version 7 since early last summer (2008) in secret as many of the changes in the system are quite revolutionary and will put ClickCartPro in a position way above our competitors when launched.
This message serves as a notice to all users of the impending launch of version 7 and provides a few screenshots of the new ajax-based management interface as well as a brief list of highlights regarding the release.
### Screenshots
Here are a couple of screenshots of the new Ajax window-based management interface. This new management interface was built to increase productivity and user friendliness.

### New Feature Highlights
The following list is an abbreviated highlight list of what we've got in ClickCartPro 7. You'll see that we've completely overhauled the system to make it much easier to user and understand and have taken user comments and requests into great consideration while working on the new software:
1. Major architectural changes to make the entire platform faster, more efficient and easier to work with and extend.
2. New Web 2.0 management interface with Ajax windows and multitasking. This increases productivity as the interface acts like an operating system now.
3. New standard management interface which includes all of the functionality in the new Ajax interface without the need to have a browser with JavaScript turned on.
4. Simplified management interface functions and dashboards which are easier to use and less technical.
5. New productivity tools like relationship managers and wysiwyg editors.
6. Use of MooTools instead of Scriptaculous for all JavaScript which increases browser support and efficiency.
7. Display system completely rebuilt to make use of Skin Widgets and common skins for all components.
8. Expanded Quickbooks functionality to include inventory and customer management functionality.
9. Built in support for Google Analytics and MooTools-based JavaScript tools.
10. Support for new XMODs including a batch shipping, advanced order management, a news feeder and a Google Base export.
11. Direct integration with Joomla!
12. New product option and form fields types like file uploads.
13. Expanded CMS functionality including permissions on webpages.
14. Expanded the state/province and country tax systems to include up to five levels of taxes, exemptions for disabilities and digital goods, and support for non-standard systems like those in the EU, Canada and Austrailia.
15. Full support in the base program for EU VAT. The new EU VAT system is more efficient than the one in version 6 and works with multi-rated products and product options.
16. New order total adjustments in checkout include tax refunds and custom surcharges (the inverse of custom sales).
There are other bits of *candy* peppered throughout the program that are not listed here - these are simply the highlights to give you a taste of what's to come in the next couple of weeks. A more complete features list will be published on the release date.
Thanks and have a great day.

It's much simpler but you'll still be creating product option selection items, associating them with a product option then associating the product option with a product or products. Instead of having a separate window with a list of things you'll now have a list with check boxes to pick from iff you have less than 100 things (option selection items, options, products, categories etc).

12. New product option and form fields types like file uploads and calendar date selections.
uhm, does this mean that we can add a product option that is a calendar picker? Like a graphic of a calendar and they select the date (for delivery as an example?). If so, are there options like excluding weekends or holidays as selection dates?

Yes. You may add a date select field that shows a calendar for the selection. You may pick whether it's a future date, past date or any date.

Joomla integration...that would be nice...Good joomla commerce solutions are seriously lacking...
How will it integrate?

So the customer can pick a weekend or holiday and then be pissed off because we LET them pick that date but can't deliver on it...does anyone think through these features when they're built because I'm amazed how often 'new features' are poorly implemented.

What fits for your business may not fit for another James. I certainly wouldn't call the addition of the calendar selection something "poorly implemented".

As far as I can tell, the primary use for a calendar selection option is for a delivery date. There are obviously unique circumstances where it would be used for other things, but delivery date is the most obvious use. I would be wrong on this...but I wouldn't say it if I thought I was
The implementation ignores what fits my business and many others. This wasn't a 'we decided to implement it a different way' issue, the decision was made to ignore a fundamental USE of the feature which is delivery date selection and sunday/holiday delivery are not options for almost any company. I might as well let the customer enter a date in a text box like I do now since they'll just complain that the calendar showed a date, why would I have my calendar let them pick a date we can't deliver on.
The analogy would be for the file upload option to only allow .txt files to be uploaded and saying to someone who runs a site that would want customers to upload .jpg's or .gifs for image upload to say to them 'what fits your business may not fit another'. When image upload would be a major (and possibly primary) USE of the file upload feature.
I'll just have to plan for submitting a mod request.

On a side note, I do appreciate all the hard work that is performed by Nick, Dave, James and the rest of the Funky Bunch, but dissenting opinions must be heard in order to make the cart EVEN better.

I think the addition of the calender date selection is fantastic, really pleased to see this addition, it would be nice to have the option of disallowing/excluding dates and i do think it should be a standard feature, but if we have to pay for a mod for this, i think i can live with it

Hey guys. Not all features have been implemented and user comments like those above are invaluable. What I said to Dave when he asked me about the implementation of that feature was:
"You can add a date select field that shows a calendar for the selection. You can pick whether it's a future date, past date or any date. I hadn't considered blocking dates - that may be possible."
So don't get all fired up until you don't see what you want in there
Concerning the question on the Joomla integration: CCP7 has a tie in to Joomla which lets you leverage the Joomla account management system (now CCP can hook into Joomla's user table) and you can leverage your Joomla skin. Basically you put in your Joomla access info into CCP and turn on the integration and voila, the two are tied together. Much simpler than any other ecommerce implementation for Joomla and you lose no power from CCP.

Hi Nick, thanks for the clarification! I noticed you mentioned 'past date'...what would be the use of that (i'm curious)? To add to my previous comments about excluding dates, we get people requesting delivery the same day or next day when it's past cut off for getting out packages that day (cut-off is 12pm EST on our cart). If it was possible to add the functionality in, it would be even sweeter if a time exclusion can be included (meaning cut off of a specific time (based on cart time)) for the next day to be considered an available date. That probably complicates the process, so I understand if it doesn't get considered, but I thought I would mention just to help explain another use of someone using the calendar for delivery date selection.
Regarding customer expectations, the sad thing is I have 'transit time' estimates pulled from FedEx along with rate quotes and I'll get someone order and specify next day or 2 days for requested delivery date but the transit time will clearly say '5 business days in transit'... I often wonder how they function in society...

With respect to Joomla, I'm trying to figure out how I could take advantage of it...I was looking at their 'extensions' directory and saw that they have '22 ratings and reviews' extensions. Would this mean that we would be able to add that into the cart on the product detail page...or would ANYTHING joomla related only be usable on the pages that are created through joomla (and none of the cart pages)?
Or, would it mean that basically we stop making 'ccp webpages' when we need to add some kind of content and just do it through joomla? And will the URL structure be something like 'mysite.com/joomla/[everything-joomla-related-in-here]' while the cart is in the root (i don't use a /ccp6/ subdir)?

Joomla is a CMS and components and extensions to Joomla wouldn't be visible to CCP or visa-versa.

So what's the point of the integration? Just hooking into joomla's user table? Not complaining about it, just trying to understand its potential use for me...
Offline
The point is exactly what you stated James. The HUGE Joomla user base has very few decent e-commerce solutions and CCP is going to fill that gap.

I am very excited about the joomla possibilities :-)... makes me even happier that I chose CCP! Its a nice surprise.

Alicia, how does it benefit you? (just curious how joomla relates to your ecommerce needs)

Concerning past dates - The date field could be used to enter a birthday as a past date, or for selecting a date range - like show me orders between X and Y dates.
Concerning Joomla - I'm finalizing the integration over the next couple of days. I'm working on the skins as well as a single sign on.

Hi James..
For me...because of the way I have to have my site set up... its just the ease of uniformity in look.....My ecommerce has to be separate from my main site not only in name, but in space...so I don't get the full benefit, just the excitement over the scaled down benefit I get. Next site..if there is one.. I hope to max out whatever is presented as an option. So I am not necessarily the one to ask this time around :-)
I am not sure if you use joomla or your level of familiarity with it...but if there were the single sign on as mentioned..that would be huge for those who use different extensions that require sign in or have a site that requires sign ins...
As I mentioned before, ecommerce solutions for joomla are severely limited. I see where a couple of bridges to another cart are out there now. I reviewed that cart at length. While it is good, CCP has it beat hands down IMO.
Sorry I didn't have more to add of benefit.
