My site has been working fine for months. I've had several orders since I last added products, and many more since I last made any other changes. Now, for some reason, no shipping options appear on checkout. The default option (in case of error) is the only one that appears. If I look at the source of checkout page, I can see the requests sent to and the replies received from USPS. Here is one example:
<!--
REQUEST:
<RateRequest USERID="xxx" PASSWORD="xxx"><Package ID="0"><Service>Parcel</Service><ZipOrigination>06339</ZipOrigination><ZipDestination>97006</ZipDestination><Pounds>0</Pounds><Ounces>4</Ounces><Container>None</Container><Size>Regular</Size><Machinable>False</Machinable></Package></RateRequest>
REPLY:
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<RateResponse><Package ID="0"><Service>PARCEL</Service><ZipOrigination>06339</ZipOrigination><ZipDestination>97006</ZipDestination><Pounds>0</Pounds><Ounces>4</Ounces><Container>None</Container><Size>REGULAR</Size><Machinable>FALSE</Machinable><Zone>8</Zone><Postage>8.39</Postage></Package></RateResponse>
-->
USPS is returning values, yet the options aren't being displayed during checkout. Any ideas on why this is happening?

I am also using 5.1 tiki and having the same problem. It started just after midnight on 11/17 it appears based on my site orders. Orders on 11/17 have appropriate rates based on destination, orders starting on 11/18 all have the default shipping value. I'm not even sure where to start on this, it would seem that maybe the reply format has changed and ccp doesn't parse it correctly? Anyone that can help us?

I got an email from another customer on this today too. They are having the same problem. I talked to Nick at Kryptronic and he is going to trouble shoot this for us tomorrow morning. Will keep you posted with any updates from him. Likely it has to do with the USPS messing with the V2 rate interface.

We too have experienced the same lack of USPS realtime shipping rates since 11/18/2007. The issue seems to be only with USA orders as International rates are working properly, at least to Canada. I hope this helps with the troubleshooting.

Nick says that my account at USPS is not authorized, I'm on hold with them now but that doesn't explain why it is happening to you guys too. I encourage you to call Nick and let him know if this is till broken for you. Hopefully USPS will pick up my call soon.

I get replies from USPS -- I can see them in the code. They just aren't showing up in the visible form. I don't think the USPS would return responses if I wasn't authorized. Thanks for the update, thought. I'll look into it.

I did some research and found that the USPS change on 11/18/2007 effected other shopping cart software providers. On a forum at wwwoscommerce.com dated 11/19/2007 the site admin posted in regards to an oscommerce patch,
"...the key's for all shipping methods have been capitalized so that they will be compatible with the change USPS apparently made to the values returned by their API around 11-18-2007. I don't know at this time if this is a permanent change they made so make a backup of your files before changing anything."
So the problem seems to be the 'Keys' in CCP5.1 need to be changed to capital letters so they match the values returned by the USPS.
Can somone confirm the above capitalization problem and further assist in directing me to the location in CCP where the capitalization changes can be made?

I'm going to check ste_chkout.pl That's where the routines are for all this stuff. The thing is, the response from the USPS is an XML response. If the fix needs to be done in the WSDL or other definition file, I don't think we will have access on our ends. I think the WSDL or other namespace/definition stuff probably lives on the CCP server. Weird that the new version isn't effected -- unless it is and CCP just doesn't want to tell us. My client has both 5 and 6, but 6 isn't up and running yet. It's unfortunate for her that the CC people won't do much to help with 5 anymore.
Thanks for YOUR work! I'll let you know if I have any luck.

I got it working.
Go to ste_ship.pl and find this:
@service_names = ('PRIORITY','EXPRESS','FIRST CLASS','MEDIA','PARCEL');
$service_names{'PRIORITY'} = "USPS Priority Mail";
$service_names{'EXPRESS'} = "USPS Express Mail";
$service_names{'FIRST CLASS'} = "USPS First Class Mail";
$service_names{'MEDIA'} = "USPS Media Mail";
$service_names{'PARCEL'} = "USPS Parcel Post";
When you first get there, only the first letter of each service is capitalized. Changed all to all caps like I have above and you should be good. Works for me...
Thanks VERY MUCH Atari2600 for figuring out what I had to look for. You're the best!

Hey nice work. I made the capitalization changes to our ste_ship.pl file and our USPS realtime shipping service has been restored. Now that's what it's all about. I did some easy research but lacked the technical skills to find the solution. You took my reasearch and put it all together.
You have to wonder if the USPS employs a single product tester. For Gods sake why change a label on a production API script? On top of this idiotic change could you find any online support at USPS to document the change? No. And the USPS wonders why it's loosing market share.

Do they actually wonder why they're losing market share? I would have thought it was pretty obvious. Anyway, glad you two got this sorted - I would not have been able to help at all since I switched over to UPS quite a while ago. Nice job both - this is what peer support forums are all about!

I am looking for a fix for this for CCP6... if anyone has any insight, I'd love to hear it!

I"m having the same problem and just getting around to looking at it now. Where do I find this at: "ste_ship.pl" so that I can fix it? I only know how to use the admin function.
Thanks!

ste_ship.pl is a PERL file which can only be accessed via FTP. It is located in one of two possible places, depending on your directory setup on your server:
cgi-bin/ccp51/library/modules/
OR
ccp51/cgi-bin/library/modules/
You should always make a full site backup before changing any of the core PERL files. PERL files should be transfered in ASCII mode (see your FTP program documentation) and they should be edited with a plain text editor, such as Notepad. If you are not comfortable with FTP or editing core files, you might wish to put in a support ticket with Kryptronic and let them make the change for you.

I implemented the change as tinamar suggested (thank you) and everything seems to work, except that the "First Class Mail" option does not show up as a checkout option.
Has anyone else noticed this?
Offline
Sorry to be reviving this old thread, but I never got a reply to my last inquiry.
Just to repeat, I implemented the changes, and the USPS shipping works, but now 1st Class Mail no longer shows up as a shipping option. This can discourage some of my clients to make purchases, because there is no longer a cheaper shipping option available.
I was wondering if anyone else noticed this problem and if there was a solution?
As always, thank you in advance...

This problem just presented on my website after midnight last night. All I am getting is the default shipper rates. I have the cart set-up to provide multi-shipper options (Fed Ex, UPS, USPS). The above fixed the issue with USPS, but I am still getting the default ship rate for Fed Ex and UPS.
Any Ideas???

Can't speak to FedEx, but UPS Online Tools has been working fine for a quite a while without any recent changes. Could the problem with FedEx and UPS have something to do with your multiple-shipper mod and how it is relating to what's going on with USPS? That mod is non-standard, of course, so would be tough to diagnose from here, but certainly should be in the list of suspects.
Offline
The multi-shipper mod I added was the one from the forums. It has been working fine for years with no problems. I have an order from as recent as Monday that used FedEx rates. The USPS fix posted above is now helping display their rates, but FedEx and UPS is still showing the defaults. One additional note, I have not made any cart changes in months.
Offline
Can you temporarily tweak the mod to remove the USPS rates so we can try to isolate the issue?
Offline
OK I was able to get UPS back online tonight.
In the ste_chkout.pl file I had previously had the line
@ship_options = ('UPSTOOLS','USPS','FEDEX');this had been working for years, but for some reason something changed and it no longer does, I made the following change to this line to get the UPS rates back
@ship_options = ('UPSWEBAPI','USPS','FEDEX');Well 2 out of 3 is better then 1. Any ideas on FedEx. I will let you know what I find.

Ok another update...
UPSWEBAPI and USPS does not use the non-standard Perl modules that FEDEX and UPSTOOLS require. This is why the 2 work OK and return rates. It appears that in a recent Perl upgrade, or server update of some sort the previously installed perl modules that are required for CCP 5.1 to run have been deleted from my server by the host.
I have contacted the host to re-install the CCP required Perl modules, and I am hoping that will do the trick.
I will let you know, when I hear back from my hosting company.

Thanks for the update. I wonder if this is related to the same cPanel upgrade issue that caused the script problems in the other thread?
Offline
It may be related, or the host could have just cleaned up or moved servers. I noticed that their is not nearly as many Perl Modules listed that used to be available on my account.
