Randomly adding items to cart

Has anyone see an issue where the shopping cart  is randomly items into the cart? If so, what could be causing this and how do you fix it?

Could it be related to the admin setting requiring or not requiring a customer to have an account to check out.  We have it set to Customer Account Checkout status to "Not Required" which I think is a default.

Re: Randomly adding items to cart

We have found this is not random.  This happens if two customers are checking out at the same time.  Has anyone else seen this problem?

Re: Randomly adding items to cart

A store to look at would be very helpful.  I suspect that it might be the way you have your links set up but can't tell without seeing the store in operation.

Re: Randomly adding items to cart

Big Dave,
I am not sure how to tell if the site is using sessions or cookies.  Where should I look to determine that?

Mike

Okay, I found the cookie settings.  The cookie settings are as follows:

cookie domain setting: .coppersinksdirect.com

cookie path setting: /

Re: Randomly adding items to cart

You appear to have user ids hard coded into your skin.  Go to your admin area, under HTML Pages & Elements -> Manage Site Elements -> Site HTML Layout (Update).  Look at all the text there and check your links.  If any of them contain the letters usr or rnd, that's your problem.  In the URLs in your layout, after the question mark you should only have pg=something&ref=something.  The ref=something will not even be there for all of them, just product and category links.  If there are any other something=somethings after the question mark, get rid of them.

The cookie settings you've posted appear correct, but your site is not setting any cookies.  After you've fixed the URLs in the skin, see if it will set cookies at that point and if it doesn't you may need to put in a support ticket with Kryptronic.  But fixing the links will at least take care of the "people sharing the same cart" problem that you have now.

Re: Randomly adding items to cart

I don't see any issues with your layout, no.  Do you have the sessions mod by any chance?  When I went to your site, there was no cookie set; nevertheless, there were already items in my cart.  The only way I can see that happening without a bad link in the layout is a faulty session mod or some non-standard modification that is not working.

Re: Randomly adding items to cart

He is no longer in the shopping cart business, I'm sorry to say.  What is the SPC mod?  Is that the cookie-less sessions thing?  If so, then a misconfiguration, conflict or other sort of failure with it could certainly be the issue.

He did  a single page check out for us, before they went out of business.  Must have been one of the last things they did.

Re: Randomly adding items to cart

This is probably not related to the SPC mod (sorry, didn't know the acronym).  Unless they also did a cookieless sessions mod at the same time, that shouldn't come into play here.
