Why are most of your home page links not SEO friendly?  After I navigate to any page, the links all turn SEO.  But when I first get to the store from the link you just posted, all the links are long non-SEO format.

They don't look non-SEO format to me from here - only the banner-style adverts look different because they bounce via the ad management package first.

The item, category and and Information pages are all SEO links...

Re: Example CCP6 Completed Sites?

It is definitely a great site.  For some reason, when I click your forum link, the only links on your page that come up SEO are the categories in the menu accross the top (the second line).  All the other links are non-SEO until I navigate to another page.  Using FF1.5 on XP.

Re: Example CCP6 Completed Sites?

Thanks for the compliments smile

I've had a look on the hit-logs for your session and I can see what you mean - if I've picked out the right session, you browsed to the Specials section, and you got there by clicking on a non-SEO link. That's weird.

When *I* bring up the page from a IE7 window and hover over those links they are the SEO ones - I'll install FireFox and see if I can duplicate the problem.

Re: Example CCP6 Completed Sites?

That was probably me - I went to one of the pages on the left... Specials, Best Sellers, or New Products... I don't recall which.  As I said, once I navigated anywhere, all the links turned SEO.  I just tried it again with IE6 and got the same thing - clicking the link you put in your forum post took me to a front page with mostly non-SEO links.  Maybe they don't turn SEO until you've navigated once and had a cookie set?

I've just tried this myself for a different PC set to reject cookies and you're dead right - the first hit of a page to the site shows links in non-SEO format.

This is only the case if you come to the site through the homepage - if your first hit is another page, say from a link on another site, whether or not you reach it via its SEO or non-SEO Url then the links display fine. It's only if your first hit is the homepage.

Re: Example CCP6 Completed Sites?

Maybe my firewall or privacy program is blocking the cookie and causing them to come up non-SEO on the first try... dunno.  Definitely weird smile  Still, a wicked nice site... great job!

Re: Example CCP6 Completed Sites?

Just to clear up concerns here about SEO links:

As a regular user navigates to a CCP6 site the first set of links they see will be non-SEO (as that's the page on which the cookie would have been set).  On the next page (provided a cookie exists for tracking purposes), SEO links are presented.

Search engines are recognized by the KHXC and automatically receive SEO links all of the time (even on the first page view) and are never prompted for cookies or subject to cache controls.

Re: Example CCP6 Completed Sites?

I just want to add my findings to this...

It is possible to server SEO friendly urls from the homepage (base url), but you need to install the khxc in the base/root directory (i.e. public_html without the khxc sun directory) then set you .htaccess as normal (without the preceeding khxc diretcory) and the SEO urls will be served on the first hit.

Re: Example CCP6 Completed Sites?

http://www.bamabots.com

The store is actually seperate from the website.  When you click on a 'buy now' button it goes to the store.
I really and I mean REALLY wanted to get away from CCP6 because of the mandatory account creation requirement.  Since we enter about 60% of the orders it is a pain in the butt.  I also wanted UPS and USPS label printing and a few other features.

Why I'm staying:

When you go to buy a robotic mower you get a list of all the accessories (try it).  This has raised sales of add-on products tremendously!  I thought a feature like this would be standard on all carts- WRONG!

I like the shipping options with pricing, since most of my customers want extra wire, blades, pegs, etc., fast, displaying the pricing options has increased sales and we tack on a tiny handling charge which once again has helped the bottom line.

Showing Regular Price and Sale Price let's people see the difference between what most sites charge and what we charge.  Also, being able to see a regular price WITHOUT showing a sale price.  So it doesn't look like EVERYTHING is on sale, on a few select items.

The ability to offer free ground shipping but charge full price for all other options is a terffic help.  Once again, I thought that would be a cart standard-WRONG!

I wish it interfaced with Paypal a little better by sending each item instead of Paypal just sending us a payment received notice.

The dropshipping is great as well.  It drives me nuts (in a good way) sometimes because one of the distributor knows we have an order almost before we do!

I still have tons of things to figure out but here is one thing I do know- as much as it makes me mad I can't find anything better.

Re: Example CCP6 Completed Sites?

bamabots,

how are you using the dropshipping functionality?  just adding their email address to the "shipemail" column in the products table?  i know i always hated having to update their product info for them so i wrote a little flash app that they can log into that only displays some basic product info that they might need to change from time to time.  saves me a headache of them asking me to make something out of stock, me forgetting, and then someone ordering 3 of them. smile

Re: Example CCP6 Completed Sites?

Guess I should add mine. http://www.fleshlight.com.au please dont click if an adult toy offends

Weve been running live with the new version since early August after spending 3 months part time customizing the code for features we had written on the previous CCP. A few things that we can make use of here in AUS that dont seem to be available in other countries.

So far no problems at all. The create an account option doesn't seem to have slowed anyone down at all. Sales are up, orders are being paid for more frequently which is a huge plus. Even though we don't process cc's online, at least our offline cc's are now going thru more regularly now.

We are just about to go live with our wholesale system with this version as well now.

My partners would prefer a little bit easier email invoice to work from, but I'll get that fixed for them when I get some more spare time wink

Re: Example CCP6 Completed Sites?

Well like I said-I can't really take too much credit. You guys did a great job of laying everything out and especially documenting your CSS for easy customization. All customization I did on this skin was done in less than a day.

I would recommend a skin from zipskins.com to everyone-well worth it.

What skin did you buy and customize from zipskin?

*Update* - I checked the source code of your page - khxc001 is identified as the skin smile

Here is an example of a site we designed, stripping off the shopping cart to use as a product catalogue:

Hope you like it big_smile

Re: Example CCP6 Completed Sites?

Yes, the site is very attractive.  The only problem I have with it is that it's obviously a CCP cart.  I wouldn't want people to be able to know what the cart is (but they could figure out from source code or from urls (ccp0/ in the urls for example)).  Not that there's anything wrong with the ccp look, it's just that it could appear cookie cutter or just a template site with a few color changes.  The skin i like from zipskin will give a completely different look that i can further customize.

Re: Example CCP6 Completed Sites?

Very nice!  One thing I did notice was that the link to enter the store and the link from the store to return to the main website both open in new windows.  So if you go back and forth from the store to the site, you end up with a whole pile of windows.  Otherwise, nice work!

Do you think that detracts from the flow?

I did that on purpose but now you are making me re think this.

Thank you very much.

Re: Example CCP6 Completed Sites?

You're quite welcome.  I found the window behavior problematic, yes.  Generally, one would expect the store link to take you to another area of the same site... like moving from the showroom to the sales office, so to speak.  So having a new window pop up is kind of odd - it makes it feel like you're going somewhere else.  And the 2nd new window that appears if you return from the store to the site is even more problematic... any indecision at all and you end up with windows all over the place, which is pretty annoying, imho.  Also, pop-ups are blocked by lots of browsers, firewalls, privacy programs, etc, so you might have functionality issues with some users.  Just my thoughts, but I've never seen it done that way before and I think it would be better to stay in the same window.

R.

Re: Example CCP6 Completed Sites?

Okay you talked me into it. That was easy.

This is a nice side benefit to hanging out here.

Thank you very much.

(off topic) Man Rachael, your Rule of Thirds Grid for my Nikon D200 sure is tempting. The standard Nikon grid separated into quarters makes me think too much.

I just hate to mess with a great camera system, but I might.

Thanks for your suggestion.
