A CUSTOMER ACCOUNT facility that customer can be bothered to use

I am looking for a basic customer login mod that customers will be bothered to use. All the ones I can see, send customers off to various pages to capture details then bring them back.

Does anyone know if this exists or could easily exist as a mod:

CHECKOUT: Step 1 - shipping information screen:

Offer the customer the two login fields 'email' and 'password' and a submit button just after the subtotals. If the customer correctly enters this and presses submit, then the page should be redisplayed with the address details populated.

If the customer ignores the login and completes the billing information, have an additional field next to the 'billing email address' that asks 'Password (if you would like us to save these details for your next order)'.  If they enter a password, then an account should be automatically created. If the customer is already logged in, then the password field should not be shown.

I think this method will encourage a lot more account being created.

Any thoughts?
