Hi All,

I would really appreciate help with this perplexing problem.

It is also difficult to describe ;-)

If you open my home page using IE in a small
window (say 640 x 480) a scroll bar will appear at the bottom of the window
allowing you to scroll all the way to the right and see the right nav table
containing info the such as: "serving customers in the US and Canada".

However, if you open one of my cart generated pages in a small window, like:
you will see that you can only scroll
over to the far right of the middle table and are not able to see the right
nav table.

Any idea why this is happening?

Hi Jess,

I took a look at your site and while I didn't seem to see the problem you are describing using my browser (Mozilla Firefox) I did notice some serious html errors right off the top (like a body tag within the head, and another one where it should be -- and there can only be ONE body tag in an html document). With errors like that, all bets are off on how your site is going to look in any given browser.

Furthermore, when I ran it through the , it came up with all kinds of structural (and syntactical, but those may or may not affect how the page renders) errors. Stuff like TABLE tags that aren't closed, etc., can easily break the way your page displays.

So...even if you're "self-taught", if you just wing it and hope it works or just make it look OK in browser, you are just gambling on whether your site's visitors will be able to view your site correctly in browser. You need to self-teach yourself to write valid html if you want your pages to display correctly across various platforms and browsers.

The first thing I would do is run my site through the W3C validator and look for any stuff like "end tag for "DIV" omitted, but its declaration does not permit this" or "end tag for "TABLE" omitted, but its declaration does not permit this". You can probably ignore anything about doctypes, entities, and attributes, but definitely you need to clean up the structural markup a lot.

Sorry for the gloomy news. It's a nice looking site and as the owner of two dogs, rather interesting as well. If you run into specific problems, just post a message with a link to your site. We can see your source then -- you don't need to post it... :-) But with dozens of serious markup errors, even if somebody were to tell you exactly which one breaks it in your browser, you should still fix the other ones.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for your honest appraisal of my site. I do realize it's a bit of a mess. I did fix the problem in question, but I do need to clean it up in general.

But gosh.. I just don't feel like learning good html! - Much more fun to shop for doggy stuff!
